Sen. Rand Paul comments on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump

COLUMBIA, Ky. (WBKO) - Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was watching Donald Trump’s speech at the Pennsylvania rally on television with his wife Saturday, when the shots were fired at the former president, shocking the nation.

“As this unfolded, we were horrified by it. We still are,” Paul said. “Violence, of course, has no place in our in our country.”

After addressing the crowd at an appearance in Columbia on Monday, Paul spoke with the media about the attempted assassination, echoing the comments of many government officials, urging political leaders to “calm down the rhetoric.”

“I’m sure there’s rhetoric on the right as well that needs to be toned down. But particularly President Biden has control over his own rhetoric. He needs to tone down the rhetoric,” Paul said. “I think it’s great that he’s calling for unity and calling for less vitriol, but calling former President Trump a threat to democracy is in itself inciting people to commit violence.”

Political violence is no stranger to the Kentucky senator, as he was a witness to a shooting that happened during a practice for a congressional baseball game where six individuals were shot.

WBKO asked Paul what the attempt on the former president’s life could mean for the future of his campaign, and he said he expects Trump to continue to host his rallies.

“He’s had larger rallies than any political figure in our history of our country, and I think he’ll continue to do that,” Paul said. “I think what you’re going to see is a President Trump that is less adversarial, at least in the speech before the Convention, and we’re talking about how we come together as a country.”

WBKO's knowledge of political violence ranks right up there with WKRP's knowledge of turkey aviation.

Senator Paul was assaulted, really blindsided, while mowing his lawn, by an unhinged Lefty neighbor.

“Violence, of course, has no place in our in our country.”

Paul is egregiously wrong.

'Violence' delivered our freedom and now violence is being utilized by the left to remove it.

Violence must be the response. Only the truly stupid don't understand how many people cried in pain because the shooter failed; THAT's what is oriented against the rest of us and until we respond in kind, we are resigned to lose what we have, especially due to gop inaction for decades, having permitted the corruption of every single aspect of our system.

Period.

Yeah, I was going to point that out as well about being attacked by his nut-job neighbor.

Also, Sen. Paul and his wife were attacked in Washington a while back following an event. I think cops saved him. ??

Rand Paul is one of my Senators and I think he's the very best one in Washington. My other Senator? Not so much.

The Left only wants one thing. That is power.

So with Trump's victory on Election Day, the Left will attempt to intimidate us by destroying the blue cities they live in by allowing ANTIFA/BLM/HAMAS goons to do whatever they want to do.

#7: "I think it was in DC when leftists were pushing and shoving him and his wife.'

The BLM/Antifa mob had taken over Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Rand and his wife were exiting
an event held at the White House. And were roughed up by the crowd. The cops made no arrests. Did nothing.

I’m a Trump fan and Rand Paul and him don’t always agree on things. That’s ok with me. I have absolutely no doubt both love the USA. That alone puts them on the right side. If I was still a young man I’d serve under either in the military , hell I did my time serving with Carter and Nixon. My oath was to the USA. Same as theirs. IMO.

Rand is concerned about spending and what will happen in the future. It’s nothing personal they’re friends overall I believe. I have no doubt he will be an ally

No. I disagree.

You conflate leftist leadership with their useful idiots. But of course their leaders want power; now they have an army (of sorts).

All the left on the street wants is a free ride, and they don’t care how they get it or what the brutal truth will be on the other side.

We on the right are all evil and they’d sooner change the definition of ‘genocide’ to make it rational.

The right regaining power won’t change a damned thing at this point.

I regret writing the truth, but there it is.

They crossed the Rubicon with DJT; there’s no going back. Better to prepare for it than act like the gop.

IMHO

He doesn’t. We moved into an area near RP’s home a few years ago. The realtor giving us a tour pointed out his and the former neighbor’s house; said he had moved away. I’m taking her word for it, but have no reason to doubt it. (Nice neighborhood as you might expect, we live on the other side of the tracks as it were)
