Vance though... did say that, I find that inexcusable.
Vance typed that himself - to a friend - in an Instagram DM. The post is all over Twitter, you can easily find it yourself.
He wrote:

Really? I thought I was joking. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R - Gov. AR) was a long shot in the running.
No one ever thought Palin was even eligible. Maybe 16 years ago. But she has quietly retreated out of politics these days.

It was 8 years ago. But I don’t care if it was 4 years ago, 8 years ago, or 28 years ago. Comparing DJT to HITLER is a non-starter. That is a bridge too far to come back from.

It was 8 years ago. Trump had just been a liberal turned conservative at that time. And Trump has used far more incendiary and inflammatory words than what Vance said. Mean Tweets, anybody.
Bottom line - if you are gonna close your mind on Vance for who he was - just go all the way and hate Trump also.
I don’t think that Vance adds anything electorally, and that’s still job one (President Trump looks like a heavy favorite right now, but we need to keep running as if it’s still a toss-up election): President Trump would carry OH handily no matter whom he picked as his runningmate, and Vance add value in PA, MI or WI, either. At least Youngkin would make VA even more competitive than it already has become (and if Trump carries VA, he doesn’t need PA, MI, WI or probably not even AZ) and help Trump in the suburbs in every battleground state; Vance is popular among a constituency that, while important, is already 100% behind Trump.
That was 9 years ago and I’ll also add the H word thing was a private message to a former friend and it sounded sort of like he wasn’t serious, he was joking. Then his friend turned on him and leaked a screen shot to the press. No big deal.

IDK.... Trump said it would surprise folks. Figured Palin would fit that bill. Damn sure wouldn’t stab Trump in the back like so many others have a hankering to do. Plus it’d been a hoot watching her rip the hyena to shreds.

I misunderstood Trump. I did not know the real Trump. The media misled me. There are hundreds of cliched responses.
