Yes. I was pals with a Commie in prep school. I went with him when he registered to vote, in Cheshire, Connecticut, whose local politics was dominated by Republicans, mostly of the RINO stripe at the time.

He registered Republican, apparently as a joke. It is 42 years later, and he is still in his mother's house, and still registered Republican. He never became active in politics as far as I know, but his slightly older brother went to Haverford, learned Swedish, and wound up in Germany as a mid-level bureaucrat policy wonk or some such.
