Law enforcement officials admitted it was “surprising” how the gunman was able to get so many shots off in the attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump before he was taken out by Secret Service snipers.
During a press conference early Sunday, officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police deferred several questions about security to the Secret Service — who were notably absent.
When asked if he was surprised at the number of shots the gunman was able to take at a former president, Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, said: “It is surprising but, to get all the details of that will come out later in the investigation.”
“The Secret Service really needs to answer that question,” he added, noting that they are in charge of securing the scene and the FBI were just there to support them.
Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens attempted to offer a defense for the Secret Service over the security lapse that nearly caused Trump his life.
“In their defense, what I would want to say is it is incredibly difficult to have a venue open to the public and secure that against any possible threat against a determined attacker, that’s a huge lift to try and do it,” Bidens told reporters.

Yeah. FBI IS surprised snipers let him get a few more shots in. They thought, he would get the one in then, the deep state would end it after that first shot.
Just so crazy like Las Vegas
“...it is incredibly difficult to have a venue open to the public and secure that against any possible threat....”
Yeah - almost impossible really. There must have been at least 6 rooftops in the area that a shooter could fire from.
Why was the AGR building not secured in the first place?
It’s absurd.
Basic and fundamental for Secret Service to be at every possible spot where a shooter could act from.
How could this be missed?
Especially when you ignore the most obvious places one might want to use…....
well, you could always put agents on one roof top to watch and patrol the other roof tops. Sure hope you guys are joking...this was a total failure by the SS. 1 DEAD, 2 critically injured, and President Trump a quarter inch from being murdered. Not exactly a banner day for the Secret Service..
120 yards away from the stage...no excuse for this. Boy, this is looking more shady by the minute.
Not surprising if one considers that it might have been on purpose.
The roof left unsecured, shooter spotted and countersnipers play dumb despite knowing that no blue force is on that roof.
Really easy to set up.
Hopefully it isn’t like that, it’s just incompetence.
Be careful, something is being covered up. I think the guy looks much more like Maxwell Yearick. The ear shows what looks like the piercing of a dumbbell/bar that was removed in the upper right ear, and the wrinkled lobe looks like a gauge that has been removed from his earlobe.
It’s either gross incompetence or it was allowed on purpose. Those are the only two possibilities. If I was president Trump I would hire a few of my own security guys to work on my security detail. I wouldn’t trust my life to an agency run by a woman from Pepsi’s loss prevention department. They couldn’t even stop an attack that people in the crowd saw coming minutes before it happened.
This was a hit by deep state that failed.
There are now too many conspiracy theories for them all to be wrong.
Failed because unlike his opponent Trump is an active moving target…unpredictable! Thank God!
I’m not.
It takes a team of over 25 fbi swat to take on a 75 year old man who can’t walk.
We could crush the FBI and Secret Service with less than a 1,000 guys.
An awful scenario you paint, but definitely not impossible, even likely.
I’m glad to know there is someone with even less faith in the system than me. It’s almost... almost... Like a ray of hope.
