MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow could cost the network a whopping $30 million after making “false” statements in her dubious “news” reporting.
Maddow, along with MSNBC colleagues Nicolle Wallace and Chris Hayes, are in hot water after a federal judge ruled they made “verifiably false” statements about a Georgia doctor, Dr. Mahendra Amin, whom they called the “Uterus Collector.”
The lawsuit revolves around the anchor’s accusations about Dr. Amin’s alleged involvement in performing unnecessary hysterectomies on women detained at an immigration facility at the time Donald Trump was president.
The case stems from a complaint by a whistleblower in 2020 during the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.
The complaint alleged that numerous female detainees at the Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia underwent hysterectomies without informed consent or correct medical justification.
The allegations led to several leftist media outlets covering the story.
However, it was MSNBC’s coverage that gained the most traction, with Maddow describing Dr. Amin as a doctor who routinely performed unnecessary hysterectomies on immigrant women, comparing it Nazi Germany or the Jim Crow South
Chris Hayes suggested the story evoked memories of historical atrocities.
Dr. Amin vehemently denied the allegations, filing a $30 million defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal, accusing MSNBC of damaging his professional standing and reputation
The lawsuit argues that Maddow, Wallace, and Hayes’ statements were not just false but also reported with a reckless disregard for the truth.
U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood ruled against NBCUniversal’s motion for summary judgment, ultimately bringing the case to trial.
The judge noted genuine disputes of material fact regarding whether the network acted with actual malice.
“Multiple statements are verifiably false. The undisputed evidence has established that: (1) there were no mass hysterectomies or high numbers of hysterectomies at the facility,” the court document stated.
According to court documents, key decision makers at NBC, including Chris Scholl, questioned the veracity of the whistleblower’s claims.
Scholl pointed out the lack of evidence and described the accusations before ultimately approving the articles and broadcasts.
Scholl’s internal communications showed skepticism, as he stated, “We don’t know the truth.”
Maddow and Hayes also expressed their doubts during internal discussions, questioning the whistleblower‘s credibility.
But despite concerns, the network ran with the story, which led to the defamation lawsuit.
NBCUniversal argued the reporting was based on a thorough investigation and also corroborating information from other media outlets.
The network included statements from Dr. Amin, ICE, and LaSalle Corrections in an attempt to show that their reporting was balanced.
However, the court found that these defenses were not enough to warrant summary judgment, with the judge saying that a jury would need to determine whether the show acted in actual malice
If found liable, NBCUniversal could face substantial financial penalties and tarnish the reputations of its top anchors.
I doubt if any real damage was done to Rachel's reputation, though. When everyone around you is playing in the same sewer, nobody notices the smell.

Isn’t it quite ironic that a mag posts an articlw with a false headline about false claims.
This is no big deal (work with me here). The employer will pay the judgment and life and the perps will go on as b before. The only way to make an impact is to have the perps pay out of their own pocket; otherwise they’re just being indemnified.
