So we pass legislation to what end? State that which the Constitution ALREADY states? God, we are so stupid.

“So we pass legislation to what end?”

198 Democrats voted against this bill. That means 198* Republicans running against them can now state that the Democrat SUPPORTS THE VOTING OF ILLEGALS.

Huge impact, if they actually want to win.

*I know, some districts don’t run Republicans

God, we are so stupid.

What do you mean WE? You're speaking only for yourself.

It's politics. Every one knows what the Constitution says about voting and citizenship.

However, the "no" votes, which are essentially anti-Constitition, can be played up in campaigns and so on.

As I understand it, it's already illegal for non-citizens to vote. Being registered doesn't make it legal for them to vote. But having non-citizen voters on the rolls does make it easier to cheat. Because you can have 105% of a voting district vote, but it looks like 90% because of the excess people on the voter rolls.

What this bill says, is:
1) that documentation of citizenship is required for all methods of registration. This would end the driver license registration of all drivers regardless of citizenship. And other overly loose registration drives.

2)It also requires states to develop a process to check citizenship and remove non-citizens from the voter rolls.

The problem I have with this legislation is 1) there are no penalties. Without penalties, "the code is really more like guidelines".

And it was brought when their was no chance of getting it through the Senate or by the President. Thus it could send a signal that illegals can vote. They can't legally, but it could democrats could wrongly interpret this bills failure as that.

Are you sure you’re applying the term “we” properly?

It’s not stupid.

It’s evil.

Anyone who thinks politicians from any party will prioritize their constituent's interests before their own is a fool who is ignorant of human nature.

Just like repealing ObamaCare, the Republicans only advance bills like this when they know it won't get signed into law.

Remember, it was W that let Mexico issue Consular cards to illegals on US soil by not doing anything to stop it when he could have.
