Several people were injured in an accident during repair work on Iran’s Sahand destroyer, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
The incident likely occurred during repairs to Sahand’s propulsion system or its ballast tank at the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, Fars reported. Unconfirmed images posted by local media showed the 96-meter (315-foot) vessel capsized in port.

Fear the kilo ss’s…….. but the crew sucks.
“Not a navy to be feared”
If I recall, in a war game where an American Marine general fought the Iranian side, he killed some 20,000 Americans and sank several US warships.
Iran has a Navy focused on area denial. It consists of hundreds to thousands of tiny manned and unmanned vehicles. Many are suicide vehicles. Note what the Ukrainians have done to the Russian fleet. The issue is ships are designed to fights ships, missiles, and planes. Not drones or suicide vehicles. It’s an issue of “elevation.” A ship’s guns fire up, not down.

DUBAI, July 9 (Reuters) - The Iranian Navy frigate Sahand entirely sank in shallow waters on Tuesday in the southern port of Bandar Abbas, Nournews agency said, after it was briefly repositioned following its initial capsizing on Sunday.
“The Sahand warship, which was rebalanced on the water with great difficulty on Monday, has now sunk after the rope holding the ship broke,” said Nour news, a news agency affiliated to the Supreme National Security Council.
Why doesn’t the idiotic US Navy allow the crew to mount 50 caliber machine guns to fight off these small boats? Is it because it is not a $ Trillion solution?
The US navy has had 50 cal and M60 gun mounts on bridge wings since WWII.
There is a salt water bug in the electrical system
If the Navy does have 50 cal marching guns on every ships then they sure as hell don't know how to use them. Are they training with them or are they too busy playing grab-ass?

No offence intended, but I got a great laugh from that. I haven’t fired a 50, but I have fired a couple of smaller caliber machine guns. There are all kinds of physics problems, training problems and logistics difficulties. I’ll touch on some of them. Machine guns experience “climb.” That’s when each round forces the barrel higher. The amount of training and practice required to hit a moving target is very high. Plus, you suddenly have to add personnel and all their logistics to the ship. Not a small thing because, likely all the bunks are spoken for. Then you have deck space. It’s not free. Your big gun fires and ejects shells in whatever direction the gun is facing. Wouldn’t want to be the sailor standing there as the builders didn’t plan on anyone being on deck. During an action and depending on the ship, everyone should be at their protected stations, not on deck. A near miss could wipe out all of your new gunners.
But here’s the real problem. With a mounted or unmounted machine gun you’re relying on the old-fashioned Mark I Eyeball. These engagements likely don’t take place in daylight or in calm water. Hundreds of searchers scanning the sea for brightly colored life jackets or rafts are likely to not see them. Now imagine you’re looking for something with the frontal area of a truck tire that has been camouflaged. The shooter, if he does see it, probably won’t do so until it is already in close enough range that if he hits it the blast will kill him.
Also, the ship probably won’t know it is under attack until the first suicide boat hits them. Again, weather, sea states, camouflage all play a part.
Lastly, go onto YouTube and search for Ukrainian drone strikes. You can hear all kinds of small arms and rarely does it hit a suicide weapon. The time of the engagement is usually less than a minute. So, the sailor has to either be standing there in all types of weather waiting or he has to have the speed of The Flash to get to his station, acquire the target and kill it.
My favorite line from that show.
I really liked it until about the last 4 episodes of the final season.

Someone lined up an educator incorrectly.
The Navy knows what it’s doing. Proper guns are on deck to combat the known and expected threat. We’ve been in the Persian Gulf for decades. Just don’t be like the USS Stark.
Practice makes perfect.
That is unintentionally one of the funniest lines I've read in years. Yup, it's true, mooring lines keep the ships afloat. If they break that sucker turns turtle before you can say "Davy Jones".
Surely you're not serious. Maybe leave the Navy stuff to Adm Blather...
"Weight and Balance" is one of the most critical elements in warship design, and just as important when adding and removing systems in a major upgrade. Sahand's sister ship, the Damavand, capsized and sank during in the Caspian Sea. Another ship of the same class that was still under construction, the Shiraz, capsized while still under construction. It seems this ship class should just be scrapped...
I am thrilled by the opportunity to learn new things. I have often changed my mind when discussing subjects with those more knowledgeable. Please, instruct me. Thank you.
