Johnny Carson was interviewing Jack Nicklaus’ (the golfer) wife.
He asked if she does anything for Jack before tournaments to give him luck.
She said “I kiss his balls.”
Johnny responded “I bet that makes his putter stand up!”
She walked off the set.

If I remember that sequence correctly, I believe Johnny’s response was “I’ll bet that made his putter flutter”.
I do remember it was hilarious, at the time.
