> Polish president: No Ukrainian territory can be ceded to Russia as price for peace deal. <

The Polish president is correct. Aggression cannot be rewarded.

However, we must be realistic. Putin will not (and cannot) leave Ukrainian territory that he already occupies. So sell that land to Russia, the price being a large amount of gold and oil.

In a way, it would be like the Gadsden Purchase. Mexico knew that land was gone. So they got the most for it that they could.

This whole Ukraine war is a tragic mess. It’s much like WW1. Christians massacring each other in great numbers over minor things. Trump, I think, can sort this all out.

November can’t come soon enough.

Now that's thinking outside the box, even if Putin will be deposed if he agrees to it.

The West needs to get serious about sanctions. Moscow cannot build even average weapons without machine tools, computer chips, even explosives precursors smuggled from Western countries, which they are doing in quantity. Stop that, and Moscow will have to surrender inside two years.

Actually, the US paid Mexico for California, Arizona and New Mexico right after the war.

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which brought an official end to the Mexican-American War (1846-48), was signed on February 2, 1848, at Guadalupe Hidalgo, a city to which the Mexican government had fled with the advance of U.S. forces.

The U.S. government paid Mexico $15 million “in consideration of the extension acquired by the boundaries of the United States” and agreed to pay American citizens debts owed to them by the Mexican government. Other provisions included the protection of property and civil rights of Mexican nationals living within the new boundaries of the United States, the promise of the United States to police its boundaries, and compulsory arbitration of future disputes between the two countries.
