French leftists win most seats in elections, pollsters say. Lack of majority to create turmoil

PARIS (AP) — A coalition on the left that came together unexpectedly ahead of France’s snap elections won the most parliamentary seats in the vote, according to polling projections Sunday. The surprise projections put President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance in second and the far right in third.

The lack of majority for any single alliance plunged France into political and economic turmoil. Final results are not expected until late Sunday or early Monday in the highly volatile snap election, which was called just four weeks ago in a huge gamble for Macron.

The deeply unpopular president lost control of parliament, according to the projections. Marine Le Pen’s far right drastically increased the number of seats it holds in parliament but fell far short of expectations.

The snap legislative elections in this nuclear-armed nation and major economy will influence the war in Ukraine, global diplomacy and Europe’s economic stability.

France now faces the prospect of weeks of political machinations to determine who will be prime minister and lead the National Assembly. And Macron faces the prospect of leading the country alongside a prime minister opposed to most of his domestic policies.

The projections, if confirmed by official counts expected later Sunday or early Monday, plunge a pillar of the European Union and its second-largest economy into intense uncertainty, with no clarity about who might partner with President Emmanuel Macron as prime minister in governing France.

So what happened? Is it due to the nonstop propaganda from the media in France? I reckon the Frogs are gullible enough to believe in the propaganda.

The left rioted and threatened the electorate for the last week, and in true French fashion the voters surrendered.

I really wonder what it’s like to be so utterly lacking in integrity. Here AP does use the term “leftist” to describe one leader, but apparently there are no “far left” in his coalition

that is what Im afraid will happen here..there will be enough “if Trump wins we riot” that they will make sure that some voters stay home..so Le Pen did not win?

Definitely Propaganda

But in many races, all other parties conspired together and all but one would drop out making it a 2 person race instead of 5+

First the UK goes left and now France, sometimes I think they best thing we could do is pull out of NATO completely, remove all our military bases and let Russia march to the coast unimpeded and have the whole damn thing.

Bummer.

Can we be certain that the election was honest?

Folks, this is why we need to be vigilant. Marine’s side was kicking butt and expected to win bigly. And then....somehow, it evaporated.

This is not good. Her party isn’t fickle like the Tories in England. The UK is a dumpster fire, but much of that is because the party of Margaret Thatcher turned its back on conservatism and became Labour Light.

France’s election must not be repeated here in the USA.

They could have avoided all of this by voting for a potato like we did.

Sadly another 20 years they will be under Shira and if the Russians march and take the whole thing as you say they will be hailed as liberators.

Just thankfully most of the WWII generation isn’t around anymore to see what has happened. No way they would have stormed those beaches if they knew.

Macron’s so-called centrists united with the far left. The new government will be dominated by a coalition of socialists, communists and greens..

This is depressing. I thought (naively, I guess) that France was about to turn itself around.

I am against coups in our own country, of course. But maybe it’s time for a coup in France. Cue the little guy with the big hat.

“So wait, the French changed their minds from last week”

Not really, RN got about 33% in the first round, they will get a bit more than that in this round. However mid 30s will not be enough to win in many constituencies whenever there is only one other candidate

Every day that goes by voting our way out is looking less and less like a viable option.

Lol. You have to be kidding. Russia was supposed to take over Ukraine in one week, and it’s been two and a half years. You really think they could defeat a real country?
