To Biden, 2024 Is Up to the Voters, Not Democrats on Capitol Hill

To a defiant President Joe Biden, the 2024 election is up to the public — not the Democrats on Capitol Hill. But the chorus of Democratic voices calling for him to step aside is growing, from donors, strategists, lawmakers and their constituents who say he should bow out.

The party has not fallen in line behind him even after the events that were set up as part of a blitz to reset his imperiled campaign and show everyone he wasn’t too old to stay in the job or to do it another four years.

On Saturday, a fifth Democratic lawmaker said openly that Biden should not run again. Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota said that after what she saw and heard in the debate with Republican rival Donald Trump, and Biden’s “lack of a forceful response” afterward, he should step aside “and allow for a new generation of leaders to step forward.”

...

With the Democratic convention approaching and just four months to Election Day, neither camp in the party can much afford this internecine drama much longer. But it is bound to drag on until Biden steps aside or Democrats realize he won’t and learn to contain their concerns about the president’s chances against Trump.

There were signs party leaders realize the standoff needs to end. Some of the most senior lawmakers, including Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and Rep. James Clyburn, were now publicly working to bring the party back to the president. Pelosi and Clyburn had both raised pointed questions about Biden in the aftermath of the debate.

“Biden is who our country needs,” Clyburn said late Friday after Biden’s interview with ABC aired.

Do we play politics or step above it and remember that it is America we are talking about? If Biden is to frail to be prosecuted, if what we see in the debate and public events is real (and likely he's not going to recover and become young again), shouldn't we all demand Biden resign as president, demand Democrats invoke the 25th Amendment, even if that means Harris becomes president for a few months?

Or is President Trump scared of a President Harris? I doubt it.

Or, do we play politics with the country, let Biden bumble on for the next 197 days until inauguration causing who knows what damage to the US? Can the US survive six more months of Biden?

Personally, I've been demanding Biden resign immediately. I'd prefer country over politics.

But I can see that if Biden continues, Republicans down-ballot will likely win across the board out of anger at Democrats or just that Democrats give up, stay home, and not only don't vote for Biden, but pass on the remainder of the ticket.

What do you think, politics or country? Or is the risk of Biden as president overblown?

Biden has never been in power. You will have the same puppet masters no matter what. Biden will be easiest to beat.

I agree, the country is more important than the politics. But the sad fact is, unless you are a major figure in the democrat party or a major donor to it, which I doubt, than we the people have no say in the matter, at least as it stands right now.

Kamala and the Cabinet dare not try to invoke the 25th unless they are 100% sure that they’ll succeed. And for it to succeed over Biden’s objection, they have to count on Republican votes in both the House and Senate—it takes 2/3rds vote in each House to remove him.

A handful of Republicans voting the ‘wrong’ way dooms Harris and the Cabinet politically. They will have struck the king but not killed him.

Unless Biden suffers an incapacitating stroke, forget the 25th.

The MSM narrative is he is too old. Then they can sell his replacement as younger than “old” Trump.

Agreed. The maneuverings in WI show that the Democrats will cheat...again...to win. Biden’s not running the country, some cabal is and I think Soros and Obama are at the head of it. One is hard-pressed to think of any other reason that Obama is the only President in the history of this Republic who didn’t leave DC when his term of office ended. Reason, he’s still “in office”.

Brave Joe is standing with the voters!! Ugh what a nauseating POS this guy is. When MSM is convinced he is staying the image rebuild will begin in full. The debate car wreck will be swept aside.

Yes, the 25th Amendment is frought with failure. And I agree that Democrats are definitely not there today. Would Republicans be patriots or just useful idiots to help or stop the 25th Amendment.

Good point, does Joe go anywhere or do anything without her being immediately there?

“old” Trump

That won't have any traction so long as Trump does not slip up, stumbles, or do something stereotypically old. Not likely but it's a risk.

That is exactly where they will go with this. I say GO BIDEN GO.

We are not doing enough to fix the elections, prepare for another attempt to steal the election.

It’s up to the power players in the Party, and they ain’t the ‘voters’.

Funny but ultimately 2020 wasn’t up to the voters but the dirty, fraudulent cheating of Sleepy’s own DemoRat party stealing the results. His and their loss in November will be a much deserving payback. That it comes with an internal rat fight is just icing on the cake.

Even if he doesn’t slip up, they will tie Trumps age with Biden’s after Biden is out.
