Just an Iran FYI.
People always look at Iran’s shoreline with the Persian Gulf and how sanctions affect the flow of oil out of there. They never look up north. Iran’s shore with the Caspian is home to many, many small oil tankers, who head to ports in Russia and Azerbaijan and Kazahkstan and Turkmenistan.
The oil from those countries is intermixed, with Iran being paid a discount. It’s good quality, diesel rich oil. Billion of dollars revenue. The sanctions . . . failure.
Then there is natural gas, with Iran the #2 reserves country in the world. They export gas locally, no LNG. Money sanctions are dodged by getting gas to Armenia paid for with electricity. Most of their gas goes to Turkey, where it is blended with other gas from elsewhere heading to Europe. Gas revenue is much less than oil.
The sanctions have been in place for literally decades and have influenced Iran policy . . . not at all.
