Russia overtook US as gas supplier to Europe in May

Europe's gas imports from Russia overtook supplies from the US for the first time in almost two years in May, despite the region's efforts to wean itself off Russian fossil fuels since the full scale invasion of Ukraine.

While one-off factors drove the reversal, it highlights the difficulty of further reducing Europe's dependence on gas from Russia, with several eastern European countries still relying on imports from their neighbour.

Putin is winning. Why would he negotiate?

Not really. Four provinces in Eastern Ukraine plus Crimea.

Before February 24, 2022, everyone thought that Kyiv was going to fall in a couple of days (or weeks?).

What happened?

This is EU's response to this embarrassing news story at the time of that story. The US immediately made sure they did something quick about the EU screwing us out of our LNG export price gouging profits our 'friends' perpetuated on us.

.

EU adopts new sanctions against Russia, including LNG

But, but Biden promised the sanctions place of Russia would drive them to their knees.

Putin halted the advance on Kiev as part of treaty drafts dated March 17 and April 15, 2022, showing the two sides’ competing proposals and points of agreement; and a private “communiqué” at in-person talks in Istanbul on March 29 that summarized the proposed deal. Boris Johnson, at the behest of Biden, scuttled the agreement. Now, we’re ready for articles showing Ukraine winning.

How is that sanction war working out?

Europe is run by incredible stupid people.

Globalists destroy everything they touch.

Ha. Good one. All you had to say is that the Russians were incompetent when it came to the invasion of Ukraine.

But I'll say this. They have adjusted in the past two years so they're fighting better. But it's not enough to conquer Kyiv.

I half agree with you. It is utterly absurd, but typical of European politicians to speak out of both sides of their mouths.

From a different source, countries like Italy get 40% of their energy in the form of LPG from Russia. This is through Austria, which,

“Yet while on paper it may seem as though Italy has reduced its dependency on Russian pipeline gas, it continues to receive high volumes of pipeline gas through Austria, which increased its pipeline gas imports from Russia from 80 per cent to 98 per cent in the past two years.”

Also from the source (https://www.chathamhouse.org/2024/06/eus-continued-dependency-russian-gas-could-jeopardize-its-foreign-policy-goals),

“In some cases, like Austria and France, countries are locked into long-term contracts with Russian energy providers which are difficult to end early – despite attempts being made. In other instances, Russian gas is being laundered through Azerbaijan and Turkey to meet continued high European demands.”

In other words, these countries talk a big game about Russia, but are still under their thumb for energy.

China nor India are going to buy more expensive oil from us than from Russia.

Our pumping oil doesn't help the dumb Europeans, who would still be paying more for our oil than for Russian oil.

Trump will force the Ukrainians to concede the territory that Russia already possesses or will cutoff all funding for the war to Ukraine.

But we have been told by Freeper Zeepers that Ruzzia economy was about to collapse.

For more than TWO years...Along with claims Putin is dead or dying and that Russia is running out of ammo and missiles.

Baghdad Bob would have been ashamed to tell their lies they are.

Russia says it will curb Kyiv assault as peace talks progress

Do you Zeepers ever get embarrassed?
