Former President Trump sought to distance himself from the conservative Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 on Friday, saying he has “nothing to do” with the initiative and disagrees with some of its aspects.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he is not involved in the right-wing think tank’s proposal, which outlines various policies and initiatives that some conservatives hope a future Republican administration would administer.
“I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it,” he said. “I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”
The 900-page 2025 Presidential Transition Project is a “governing agenda” filled with conservative priorities and insight from scholars and policy experts. It is divided into sections based on five main topics — “Taking the Reins of Government,” “The Common Defense,” “The General Welfare,” “The Economy” and “Independent Regulatory Agencies.”
The project makes a wide range of policy proposals, perhaps most notably reshaping the powers of the executive branch. It also calls for striking various small government agencies and rolling back funding for abortions and approval of the abortion pill mifepristone.

His good pal Steve Bannon has been talking it up all year, no?
The book is massive. They want to make him own every word of it...nice try ...back to Biden and his cognitive abilities. Well done Mr. President
This is probably a good thing... even without knowing specifics, it’s good that he isn’t allowing himself to be defined by someone else’s agenda.
“They want to make him own every word of it...nice try ...back to Biden and his cognitive abilities. Well done Mr. President”
Aye, aye
It’s usually smart to ignore Bannon.
There’s not an old Navy intel guy out there I trust.
If it hasn’t been torn up by an overage sot on TV then it isn’t from President Trump.
“I had just gotten out of the “Old Navy” and there was a “Gap” in my life, so I filled it by fighting for a “Banana Republic”.
- Notch Johnson
I do not see Trump's disavowal of this plan as a good thing, but I can see that it is necessary for him to keep some distance.
I have read the documents. They are very detailed and well thought through. Most of the items in the "White House Office" section are not really controversial. It is an enormous task to staff these departments with people who will follow executive direction. I cannot see where Donald Trump can find enough people to do this.
The same comments apply to the section on the "Executive Office of The President of the United States".
Trump will easily need 2,000 people in these positions. They will need to be on board within a few months. The people with experience in these roles are almost all Democrats who cannot be trusted. Trump was soundly betrayed by such people when he was in office the first time. I expect he has learned from that experience.
It gets quite a bit harsher when you look into the various Departments and Regulatory Agencies.
A generic statement that applies to every Department and Agency is stated:
Notwithstanding the challenges and slowness of the modern U.S. Senate confirmation process, the next President can exert leverage on the Senate if he or she is willing to place Department appointees directly into those roles, pending confirmation. Doing so would both ensure that the department has immediate senior political leadership and would force the Senate to act on nominees’ appointments instead of being allowed to engage in dilatory tactics that cripple the Department’s functionality for weeks, months, or even years.
The next Administration should assert leadership over, and guidance to, the <####> Department by placing political appointees in positions that do not require Senate confirmation, including senior advisors, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretaries, and Deputy Assistant Secretaries. Given the department’s size, the next Administration should also increase the number of political appointees to manage it.
To the extent possible, all non-confirmed senior appointees should be selected by the President-elect’s transition team or the new President’s Office of Presidential Personnel (depending on the timing of selection) and be in place the first day of the Administration. No one in a leadership position on the morning of January 20 should hold that position at the end of the day.
That will make some fur fly.
In my opinion, it is an insurmountable task to do this for all Departments and all Agencies. It will require some hard decisions on which ones to target and which ones to leave relatively undisturbed.
The entire Federal bureaucracy will resist and attack President Trump at absolutely every turn, including direct insubordination and indirect support of domestic terrorist activities. (Just like last time). It will take mass dismissals to bring these organizations under control. Some people will need to be tried, convicted, and jailed.
Trump is right to keep a low key on what he will do after he is elected. But he is not going to have a great many choices that will allow political or personal survival. Yes, I believe the Democrats will attempt to assassinate him and his supporters. There are already elected Democrat officials who have made public statements to this effect. It is flagrantly unlawful, but it seems that "it is not a crime when a Democrat does it".
I do not hear condemnations from Democrat leaders over such "exaggerated" statements either.
It is going to get very ugly, regardless of the election results.
He rather occupied. I think announcing the plan was dumb in the first place. Most of what’s in it can’t or won’t be done. And that’s what the message will be. Republicans can’t get their 2025 list done.
Anyone have a short summary of this plan, with a few bullet-points, such as whether we should start World War 3, or try to live together with peer adversaries?
Plus, what’s with looping in 110 conservative groups?
I don’t trust the head of the project, who is the head of Heritage, who is a Davos Man.
With regard to the point re: Senate confirmation of cabinet posts... I believe an ‘acting AG’ might be necessary for DOJ. It will be controversial but I don’t see how we can get someone to resolve outstanding matters with J6 and the 2020 election, Ukraine grifting... etc... that would pass the Senate muster.
The Heritage Foundation: Project 2025
Trump Distances Himself From Conservative ‘Project 2025’ Agenda
Even if Trump wins, he’ll be a lame duck immediately.
“So the Heritage Foundation is being thrown under Trump’s bus now?”
No, just their flawed project 2025.
The post primary butt hurt is strong in you....
Seems that now it's ok to trash Conservative organizations that promote the Conservative agenda, and even one that did Trump's homework for him, simply because Trump says that "some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal."
So which of those Conservative ideas are "absolutely ridiculous and abysmal," in his view?
