Democrats are bracing for a painful waiting game in the next few weeks as the party continues to reconcile its future after President Joe Biden's devastating debate last week.
Democratic insiders told ABC News they anticipate the questions over Biden's candidacy won't be answered for at least another week -- and possibly longer -- as the campaign, lawmakers and strategists wait to see polling conducted with the debate at least a few weeks in the rearview mirror.
John Morgan, a major Democratic donor, told ABC News that he anticipated the chorus of calls for a replacement on the 2024 ticket to quiet with "each successful" event Biden does. But Morgan said he suspended raising money for a fundraiser later this year "because I want to make sure that he's going to be there."
"It's very painful. Uncertainty is painful," he said. "Fear is painful."
The exact length until either Biden or his critics back down, barring a sudden withdrawal, is the source of speculation. One source familiar with the Biden team's strategy guessed it would be "a couple weeks" until one side blinks, while the informal adviser estimated it could take a week to 10 days.
"People want to have data to back it up, back up what they already know," the informal campaign adviser told ABC News, adding that the waiting game would be "very" painful.
"He's only going to go downhill, not uphill. So, we can't do it with him," the person said. "We love him. We appreciate him. He's been one of the most consequential presidents in history, but he can't be the guy. I had prayed that this day would not come, but unfortunately, it has."

Yes,I understand that she’s as vacant as a bag of rocks but that won’t matter to many,many people this November.
Well, Biden can read a teleprompter with passion - so can a 16 year old high school drop out actor. That's not difficult. And it shouldn't be the standard. So if the standard is 'can Biden fool all of the people some of the time' he probably can. He has for the past year. Can John Morgan be played for a fool? That might be harder.

Wrecked our energy independence/dominance, clusterfxcked Afghanistan, turned the military into a bath house, blew trillion$ out the wazoo, defied the Supreme Court, kow-tow’ed to China, OK’d the Russian invation of Ukraine, released $$$ to Iran (ensuring that terrorism would increase), opened the borders of America to shxthole dwellers, devalued the $ to make comfortable people suddenly live hand-to-mouth, gave the world’s nations every reason to distrust and disrespect us.

I just saw that the Democrat convention is in late August. Sheesh. Looks like this was planned out a long time ago. Ohio just helped them out by making the deadline day later which means they really have a month and a half to make a decision.
Waiting for more Biden decline. He is not going to recover.
I said this elsewhere and believe it needs repeating.
Here’s the problem. If Joe resigns, it’s all Kamala’s. Obama can’t play. If he tries to put forth his “wife,” then the dems supporting Obama would have to explain why the current black female president (because remember, Kamala ran as a black woman) is not as good as the other black woman (Michelle) who also has zero standing for president.
It’s a mess for them. Their earpiece and boosting uppers were not enough this time and it all unraveled.
As for the media…they know the gig is up. They are bailing in hopes of looking relevant and they know that Trump will see Justice served this time and the media is more than exposed and complicit in Biden’s case.
I’ll argue that if Biden resigns the campaign, it will be because the powers that be have developed and are implementing a way forward unburdened by Kamela Harris as a candidate.
Further, they have put forward a strategy that will protect Biden et al from prosecution for numerous criminal international extortions.
