I received a daily dose of insults from classmates and teachers for accepting an ROTC scholarship in April 1972.
As an ex-Air Defense Artilleryman, I share your sentiments. I have a 22 YO son, and a 13 YO grandson, and they will not be drafted, or encouraged to enter our current military.
Given what I've read and seen over the past 15 years, the "chain of command" is hopelessly in disrepair. As a lieutenant and captain, I knew my senior leaders had my back, and they proved it on numerous occasions.
More true than people realize.

The time for reintroducing the draft was immediately after 9/11. Even people posting here would have gone for it.
The new law is an automatic draft registration. 18 year old men have been registering for the draft for decades, and the new law would make registration automatic, rather then having paperwork completed and submitted. I can not find anything, nor have I heard anything about a new law drafting anyone. Please provide more information.
That span of time begins with and encompasses Trump's first term. The author is effectively asserting Trump initiated the military's immersion into woke culture, DEI, etc. I have a hard time buying that.
Dumb question. A better question would have been: "if they believed a state(s) secession was likely to happen within their lifetime?"

The combination of k-12 and university brainwashing is a tough thing to take on. There is a way to do it, using the original idea behind the Second Amendment. But that's a double-edged sword too.
