SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (KABC) -- Gov. Gavin Newsom offered a forceful defense of embattled President Joe Biden on Thursday, telling Democrats in Michigan that the 81-year-old president has the record and energy to win a second term despite widespread doubts about his ability to campaign or govern effectively.
"He has been one of the most transformative Presidents in our collective lifetime," he said Thursday at a Biden fundraiser in west Michigan.
Newsom was one of about two dozen Democratic governors who met with Biden last night at the White House where the President worked to reassure them he is still a viable candidate against Donald Trump.
According to one person who was in the meeting, President Biden told the governors that he needs to get more rest and in order to get more sleep, he wants to stop scheduling events past 8 p.m.
Newsom though says Biden was far from the person America saw on the debate stage a week earlier.
"That was the Joe Biden I remember from two weeks ago. That was the Joe Biden I remember from two years ago. That's the Joe Biden I'm looking forward to re-electing to President of the United States," Newsom told the crowd, spurring applause and cheers.

In a primary battle, Humphrey awaited a call in front of an audience over the sound system.
“Let’s hear from our next caller, Mr.Humphrey.”
An angry older woman was calling in to say “We don’t want you in this state, Hubert Humphrey. We don’t want you. You just git. You just git, Hubert Humphrey.”
I would like to make such a call about the loathsome Gavin Newsom in my state of Michigan.

Newson publicly states he supports the dementia patient. This is Newsom’s opinion and he’s good to go with this.

Newsom is playing this smart. He is preserving his viability for 2028 instead of risking ending his political career this November.
