Multinational automaker Stellantis is temporarily laying off about 1,600 auto workers at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant outside Detroit, Michigan, as executives cut production.
Stellantis executives announced the temporary layoffs as they cut production at the Warren plant from two daily shifts down to just one for this month. Though sales of the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have increased, executives said the temporary layoffs are meant “to align production with sales.
Auto workers at the Warren plant also produce the Ram 1500 Classic pickup truck.

Another reason Michigan will likely shun the left in November.
I bet they don’t lay off Muslim workers.
Bidenomics is only part of the reason. All of the major auto manufacturers posted 2023 profits in excess of $6B. Carlos Tavares has a salary near $55M and along with bonuses of $10.7M and $14M. Meanwhile, the average level mid range Ram truck is clocking in near $75K MSRP and thousands of 2022 and 2023 models still sit on lots unsold with 2025s rolling out soon. Average worker earnings during the same time increased about 9.4%. It looks like Stellantis, like other manufacturers, are using economic inflation as a cover for sizeable greedflation as well as using sales of ICE models to subsidize their failing EV programs.
SOP, happens every summer throughout the auto industry as they transition to change overs......Sheesh!
I keep hearing this, but when it comes to the big three what's left of the US auto industry, I'm not seeing it on the highways and parking lots.
UAW needs to die. The only way for that to happen is for the companies to go under.
Great idea! Perhaps the government will give them another bailout.
Biden will to big to fail them and bail them out.
All the more reason to have Trump as president. However rats will blame Republicans for the failure
Voters in Michigan may shun the left, those who count the votes in Michigan will not.
There could be rules for a bailout if I am Trump. Let the workers vote “Yes”on this package or lose their jobs.
1. Chrysler is no longer an American owned company. It’s French. It must be sold to a US owner. (Say hello to the new ICE subsidiary of Tesla). The union is out and the workers get the same pay package as Tesla workers.
2. The entire senior management team must be replaced.
It is not just Ram. Ford and GM have similar pricing. If you want a full size truck the closest price to $50K is a basic fleet truck.
It’s beyond insane. If I was to buy a 2024 pickup with the same trim level as the 2017 model I bought for $39K, I’d have to pay $76K.
Makes more sense to pay $5K to my mechanic for an overhaul since there’s really nothing wrong with it.
I am not a truck guy, but $75 K will buy a nice midsize BMW or MB. I am still driving a 2008. A replacement vehicle with similar options will cost around $50K...
