My Fellow Progressives: Replacing Biden Is Not Our Fight
Newsweek ^ | Jul 02, 2024 | Nina Turner

SNIP

I was in a room filled with mostly Democratic voters at BusBoys & Poets, a well-known restaurant and progressive hub in the heart of Washington D.C., where I was preparing to give my post-debate analysis.

Going into the evening, I admittedly had had relatively low expectations; we have all seen former President Trump and President Biden on a debate stage before, and it was not pretty. I was under no illusion that this bout would be any better.

Even though my expectations were low, the performance by both men failed to clear the lowest bar. Former President Trump lied repeatedly and oftentimes refused to answer direct questions. But it was President Biden's performance that sent the Democratic Party into chaos, from think pieces written by the President's allies calling on him to exit the race to donors going on TV to defend his candidacy.

But as a progressive, my primary response has been a single question: Should this be a fight progressives take on?

Over the past four years, even before he was the Democratic nominee, I have been critical of Joe Biden and his policies. During his presidency, I have not shied away from publicly calling him and his administration out. I do not believe his policies go far enough to address the material needs of the American people, which among other things, makes him a liability electorally.

SNIP

It is not on progressives to fight for a different candidate; it is on us to fight for a party that centers the people over the donor class.

So for the “progressive “ types, Joe just hasn’t been radical enough. Ok then.

She asks “how’d we (progressives) get here.?”

No mention of DEI. Identify politics coming back to bite.

Nina Turner?

But only now my love has grown
And it gets stronger, in every way
And it gets deeper, let me say
And it gets higher, day by day

And do I love Joe my oh my
Yeah, river deep, mountain high
If I lost you would I cry
Oh how I love you Joey, Joey, Joey, Joey

These people do not realize that what “they” want doesn’t matter anymore. The people don’t trust them. Nothing they do is going to change the minds of anyone who watched that debate.

Instead of struggling to turn this around, they need to act quickly, decide to make a change, and try to make it work.

But they won’t because they don’t want to do anything difficult.

Screw ‘em.

The best thing for them is to go down in flames with Biden in November.

FWIW, Newsom already said he's not running. His play is in 2028.

Smart.

... it is on us to fight for a party that centers the people over the donor class.

This should be the demand of all Americans regardless of party affiliation. Sadly, too many Americans on all sides of the political spectrum are being played - and don't see it. Our laws allow the rich and powerful, their allies and lobbyists, and foreigners to buy/own our democrat and republican politicians. Until/unless our laws change to make our republic truly 'of the people, by the people and for the people' - we have no republic. Unfortunately, the ones in a position to change our laws to give power back to the people - are the ones benefiting from the corrupt system.

She was a lot better with Ike.

Nina is an intellectual lightweight hoping to aggrandize herself by hanging out with like second-raters. Much of this is simply The Message repackaged - Trump's lies, whatever they were, for example, well, we all know they must have been lies, don't we? It needs no explication. Real in-depth stuff there.

The reason her ideal Progressive remains in search of the ideal Progressive candidate is that neither really exists. They're both figments of an overheated political imagination. Policies inspired by vague abstractions - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are three perfect examples - are to be judged by their stated aspirations, not by their results. When the latter come a cropper it's always somebody else's fault. It's a comforting cocoon of self-delusion and they will never be satisfied outside of it.

Yet they rarely specify the alleged lies. And when they do, it turns out to be mere hyperbole, not lying. Meanwhile…
