Anxious Democratic donors grilled Biden campaign officials on a Zoom call Monday, pressing Biden's team on how it will deal with new concerns about his fitness for office, according to four donors on the call.
Why it matters: There wasn't much panic during the special call for wealthy donors — but there was a fair degree of skepticism.
Donors' questions revealed deep doubts within the Democratic Party on whether Biden has the stamina, skill and substance to go toe-to-toe with former President Trump for the next four months, defeat him on Nov. 5, and serve another four-year term.
Donors didn't find the campaign's answers totally satisfying.
"It was a damage control call," one participant said.
"I don't know what the pathway forward is, and I think they are trying to figure that out, too," another donor told Axios. "We all saw what we saw."
Between the lines: Campaign officials — including co-chair Jen O'Malley Dillon, pollster Molly Murphy and finance chair Rufus Gifford — didn't try to change donors' perceptions of Biden's debate performance. They stipulated, just like Biden himself, that he had a bad night.
But they did offer an argument — and some data — on how Biden might recover and still beat Trump. Driving the news: After presentations from Dillon and Murphy, roughly 500 members of Biden's regional and national finance committee had the chance to ask questions in a group, which the call moderators controlled.
Participants were muted. One of the first questions dealt with Biden's overall stamina and whether he could continue his presidential campaign. O'Malley responded that Biden knows he has to improve and show the public he can run an effective campaign — as well as the country.

Keep in mind the drumbeat is coming from the Swamp, Red and Blue both.
But there are two items Swamp Filth have to live with.
1) The campaign remaining isn’t done in late September, but it almost is. Early voting starts then in a few battlegrounds. In others, October. But for nearly none, November. So there is not much time left.
2) Biden doesn’t have to last til late September. He only has to last about 1 week. The storm will have been weathered and no time will remain to replace him.
The GOP Trump haters should just go away. He looked fine reading the teleprompter, and Nancy used to feed answers to Ronald. There is nothing all that new here.
Neither side should want any more debates. Polling pre debate was 1-2% different, which loses for the Dems, but it’s not a big gap.
My mom was always very healthy and robust throughout her life. When she reached her late 70s, her strength was waning (she'd complain how heavy the phone book was) and dementia was really setting in. Recognizing her diminishing strength and mental capacity, Mom always said "When I get better."
I knew there was nothing to be gained by telling her "Mom, at this stage of life, you do not 'get better.' It's a one-way trip." Mom continued to decline a few more years and passed at age 83. She never did "get better."
Mom was whistling past the graveyard just like Biden and his cohorts are doing. Biden is NOT going to improve. He's on the one-way trip to the grave and nobody says it out loud.

I imagine if Trump had had “such a bad night” there would be demands from every media outlet in the U.S. and every single Democrat pol for Trump to drop out of the race. It would be all over the blabber shows and screamed from The View.
But with an obviously demented, feeble and weak Biden, the media, Democrat pols and talk shows are making every excuse possible for this idiot.
If these Dem donors wish to waste their money on a lost cause and believe the lies, I think they should go right ahead.
