On what grounds? The whole thing is a concoction of the Manhattan DA. Trump is charged with state crimes. Now there are questions regardingthe usage of a federal statute as a model for state prosecution, but SCOTUS taking the case before any state appeal process has begun is a long shot.
As for Merchan sentencing Trump to incarceration, that was a done deal at 10PM Thursday night.

Just as they stepped in on the state ballot issue in Colorado, they can step into this case.

There should be a compelling case to be made that the leading candidate for the US presidency, a man who is granted statutory protection from the Secret Service should not be put in jail.

The US Supreme Court has ultimate jurisdiction over all criminal cases in the US. They rarely get involved until appeals have gone though the lower courts, but they aren't required to do that. Bush v. Gore in 2000 was fast tracked because the timing was critical to the functioning of the government.

If ever there was an emergency case, this would be it.

If Merchan does sentence Trump to prison, at the very least he should at long last reveal what the felony was that Trump was found guilty of. That is still a secret.

Probably in Merchan's mind, Trump would have lost if not for the NDA to Stormy Daniels, so he deserves prison for stealing the election, even if he can't state that directly.

I'm hoping for no jail time (unlikely), or Trump can remain free while the case is being appealed, or that if Merchan does order prison immediately, the Supreme Court will get involved immediately. But at this point it is hard to guess what will happen.

The Democrats and the media live in a bubble where everyone agrees with them, so they have no idea of how the public in general would react to Merchan ordering Trump to prison on such B.S. grounds.

Emergency writs are filed with USSC fairly often . Think “last chance appeal before execution”.

It’s true that USSC accepts few of them — but an attempt by the party in power to imprison the opposition party’s presidential candidate, based on a problematic trial and conviction on “novel” state charges brought by a DA who campaigned on a promise to jail said candidate — I’m guessing all that just might pique their judicial interest. 😉
