I know more about dry eyes than I want to know!
MGD is meibomian glands dysfunction, and is when the 3rd component of tear - the oil layer - isn’t produced enough so tears evaporates too quickly.
Aqueous deficiency is when the lacrimal glands don’t produce e ought of the Aqueous layer.
There’s even a type of dry eyes where the Aqueous layer is over-produced. I thought I love that, until a windy day brought it on. Without the proper amount of oil, it felt like any good Tears were being washed away and my eyes felt drier than ever.
