First, Biden is behind in the polls. Second, he has to debate the Republican challenger at least twice. Third, there comes a point when cheating becomes farcical.
The press knew Biden would crash during the debates. They know what the polls show and know they will only get worse. Cheating isn’t an option when you’re down by more that 3%. And as mentioned up thread, the threat now is that Biden drags everyone down.

Yeah, if he’s not fit to campaign, he’s not fit to be president. Biden doesn’t stop being an ‘issue’ if he serves a lame duck period.
