WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is expected to discuss the future of his re-election campaign with family at Camp David on Sunday, following a nationally televised debate Thursday that left many fellow Democrats worried about his ability to beat former President Donald Trump in November, according to five people familiar with the matter.

So far, the party’s top leaders have offered public support for Biden, including in tweets posted by former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Senior congressional Democrats, including Reps. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Jim Clyburn of South Carolina and Nancy Pelosi of California, have privately expressed concerns about his viability, said two sources apprised of those discussions, even as they all publicly back the president.
One Democratic House member who believes Biden should drop out of the race — but has yet to call for that publicly — told NBC News that three colleagues expressed the same sentiment to him during votes on the House floor Friday.

At the same time, there is an understanding among top Democrats that Biden should be given space to determine next steps. They believe only the president, in consultation with his family, can decide whether to move forward or to end his campaign early — and that he won’t respond well to being pushed.
“The decision-makers are two people — it’s the president and his wife,” one of the sources familiar with the discussions said, adding: “Anyone who doesn’t understand how deeply personal and familial this decision will be isn’t knowledgeable about the situation.”

“It’s a mess,” this person said.
Another person familiar with the dynamics said Biden will ultimately listen to only one adviser.
“The only person who has ultimate influence with him is the first lady,” this person said. “If she decides there should be a change of course, there will be a change of course.”
After publication of this report, a source familiar reached out to stress that the Camp David gathering was not a formal family meeting.

I thought the debate was in Atlanta.
From what I've gathered, that isn't allowed. The only person eligible for that loot is Horizontal. But, stranger things have happened.
Therein lies the great dilemma. As RoosterRedux astutely notes, Biden is destroying the Dem brand. Kamala Harris is another shining example of the Dem brand.
Not necessarily.
Just because they turned to Kamala to take over for a few months doesn't mean that the Party will back her as the candidate. They might say to her, here's your brief moment in the sun. Three months and it's over. We've got another candidate and it isn't you.
The Party might say, here's your new VP and he/she is going to be the candidate in November. Or the VP chosen might be just another paper doll to fill the place for 3 months (i.e., just a little bone tossed to some poor schmuck).
The debate was not at Camp David. Terrible syntax in the headline.
Beyond that, it appears you do not have any cogent thoughts about the content.
I agree, after Thursday’s performance Biden is toast. I suggested that six months ago that the Dems were quickly running out of time to dump Joey. I also suggested to watch the VP. If the dems made a move to change VP, then Joey would be toast.
Well, any timeline for a smooth transition is GONE!! Panic is the only path forward for the dems. Glorious to watch!!!
Now for the down side, the BAD ACTORS in the world, after Joey’s performance, KNOW for sure that the US is in no condition to stop them. EXPECT all kinds of Bad Stuff between now and January if not longer.
FJB and ALL Demoncrats!!!!
China already owns most of our politicians and they have made huge investments in real estate and manufacturing. And many young Chinese men have crossed our southern border illegally and they are ready for asymmetrical warfare if needed (and asymmetrical warfare is so much cheaper than an invasion).
Why invade when you can get what you want with a phone call?
What about Hunter? Would Joe think about what would happen to his Hunter, should he step down?
See post #14.
Agreed.
Which may be why Trump and his aide Jason Miller continue to claim that Joe will be their opponent.
It took 5 ADULTS to WRITE THIS ARTICLE!!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!
How many liberals does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
The debacle debate was in shatlanta not camp david
Good luck with that!
Biden turns to family... you know, the babysitter he married, the daughter he showered with and the crack addict son.
Hell of a support group.
One thing for sure. Whether Biden withdraws or whether forced off the ticket, Biden will pardon Hunter, not only on the gun conviction, but, more importantly, on the tax fraud charge that may implicate him and his entire family and which goes to trial in a few weeks. The pardon will prevent the trial from happening. The Big Guy is cognizant enough to even go so far as to pardon Hunter’s similarly charged business associates for the very same reason.
Republicans should vote no. Democrats foisted a retard on America. They need to live with it.
Couldn’t Biden flip his funds to a PAC?
