The delegates are bound to vote for Biden. They don’t have a choice.
Also, all the money raised for the Biden Harris ticket can only go to Biden......and if he dies or is declared incompetent, to Harris. They cannot slide somebody else in there to receive the hundreds of millions in donations raised.
Then there is the matter of the 3 swing states. Its too late to replace Biden on the ticket barring his death or the 25th amendment but that means Harris is immediately declared president and then how in the world can the Democrats deny her the nomination as the sitting president? Remember these are DEMOCRAT voters. You can’t just get rid of a “woman of color” in favor of a White man. It would be very dicey to replace her in favor of a White woman.

At a convention the Rules Committee meets and determines the rules before a single delegate vote is cast.
They can make any rules they want—it is their party.
A good example of this was the 1968 Democratic Convention where the white delegates from Alabama and Mississippi had their votes taken away and they were replaced by an all black delegation.

Under normal circumstances, it would be unthinkable for a delegate to “go rogue” and vote for a candidate other than who he pledged to vote for.
However, there is nothing legally binding the delegates to vote a certain way - and these circumstances are far from normal.
Also, the Democrat party has very little regard for its own rules and precedents, and zero respect for its own voters. If they will break hundreds of laws to rig a national election, believe me, the will rig their own convention without giving it a second thought.
