A grand jury has indicted two former Uvalde school police officers in the botched law enforcement response to the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead, two Texas state government sources with knowledge of the indictment told CNN Thursday.

Former Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo and former school police officer Adrian Gonzales were named in the indictments, which represent the first criminal charges filed in the school massacre.

Arredondo surrendered himself to the custody of the Texas Rangers in Uvalde on Thursday, an official with the Texas Department of Public Safety told CNN.

Arredondo was indicted by a grand jury on 10 counts of felony child endangerment/abandonment. Given that the courts have ruled the police have no duty to protect you, it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Glad to see this ahole getting held accountable but to your point, the SCOTUS ruled police do not have a duty to protect.

Yes,they're morally responsible...but it's hard to see how they're legally responsible. Seems to me that any conviction will be overturned by the Federal courts.

What took so friggin’ long? They didn’t waste any time blaming and trashing the Bill of Rights, American firearms owners and the NRA. Sorry pieces of “immigrant” crap.

I disagree. Police officers have a tough enough job. This ‘requires’ them to have courage?

Dumb

Expose them for the cowards they are, and fire them. Taking them to court is stupid.

Just stop hiring cowards

The Nashville and Allen shootings made Uvalde and Broward cops look even worse.

Every single one of them should be indicted for accessory to murder and child endangerment. I’m waiting for the BACK DA BLOOO folks on here to start chiming in.

We execute soldiers that display cowardice so why not the same standard for the police? The police always go out of their way to cloak themselves in military culture and call citizens the insulting, diminutive “civilians.” These coward ninja cops need to pay the price to encourage the others.

We can all agree that their response was not aggressive enough; but criminal law juries shouldn’t be ruling hindsight on police tactics, absent clear evidence of violation of a criminal statute. Who would want to be a cop if he could be judged criminally for his tactics (not just fired) by juries of amateurs who never been in a dangerous situation?

This is the Uvalde police SWAT team. This community of 13,000 people spends 40% of its municipal budget on the police.

Well, they need to spend a little more...I don’t see an Asian or an African American on that team. Get with the times, people!

.......my 2 cents on this is that “criminal” punishment for the cops in the hallway outside the room where the kids were being slaughtered will NEVER survive appeal over the YEARS such an appeal will take to wind it’s way through the so called Appeals Courts.

I think instead a SETTLEMENT should be AGREED to.

The SETTLEMENT should be that ALL “CRIMINAL” and “CIVIL” charges/claims will be voluntarily dropped by all parties IF ALL the cops (including school, sheriff, city, DPS, Feds) in that hallway outside the classroom (that did NOTHING), and ALL officers (including civil personnel if any) in charge above them all the way up to the very top in Austin HQ would be summarily FIRED (not resign).

An add on and part of the above settlement would be that Uvalde County and the school district should pay each mother and father some reasonable and uniform amount of money with no attorney’s fees involved. Attorney’s should not be allowed to profit off dead kids!

If I was a parent of one of the murdered kids I would agree to this.

That is a good suggestion. But I would add that the cops who failed in their duties must surrender their police certification. We don’t want a bad cop just moving down the road, and get hired by another department.

And I agree with you. The grand jury has indicted two of the cops. But this will not survive a court challenge.

Do something, boys! You cant be more wrong than standing around doing nothing!
