DENVER — Police in Denver are investigating a shooting involving officers in the downtown area that left one woman dead Sunday.
It happened at 11:44 a.m. on Broadway near the Lawrence Street intersection.
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said officers responded to the area on a report that a woman holding a knife was in the intersection.
When officers arrived, they confronted the woman and gave her commands to drop the knife. However, Thomas said the woman refused and began advancing toward the officers.

Please correct my opinion if you think this is a wrong concept refarding level of force acceptable in such a situation. I do realize that currently equipped, most LEOs do not usuallu have a baton directly at hand, only a firearm.
(Unless anyone's life has become very cheap, that is.)
The use of a firearm against a knife is the best way to deal with knife wielding assailant advancing after being told to stop.
Center mass, keeping pulling the trigger till the advance stops and knife dropped.
Multiple verbal commands are useless, one shouted command loudly and then firing will insure that the attack stops or is going to be very difficult with your body springing leaks and losing blood rapidly.
tazers are an option for unarmed assailants MAYBE. But most female cops and donut munching , fat body male cops aren’t skilled or trained well enough for unarmed fighting.
New CLEST training are going from 21 to 35 ft.
