Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will plead guilty to US criminal charges as part of a deal that allows him to go free, according to court documents.
Assange, 52, was charged with conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defence information.
For years, the US has argued that the Wikileaks files - which disclosed information about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars - endangered lives.
He has spent the last five years in a British prison, from where he has been fighting extradition to the US.
According to CBS, the BBC's US partner, Assange will spend no time in US custody and will receive credit for the time spent incarcerated in the UK. Before that, he had taken refuge in Ecuador's London embassy for seven years.
Assange will return to Australia, according to a letter from the justice department.
He and his lawyers had long claimed that the case against him was politically motivated.
In April, US President Joe Biden said that he was considering a request from Australia to drop the prosecution against Assange.

They threatened Trump if he pardoned Assange (McConnell said he’d back finding Trump guilty on an impeachment charge if he pardoned Assange).

That would make sense. I wondered why Trump didn’t pardon JA, because Wikleaks was a big problem for Hillary in 2016. Another thing is that Trump wouldn’t want to appear to be colluding with JA.

Julian Assange was an accessory to TREASON. He got a U.S. Army Private/Specialist to STEAL U.S. secrets and pass them to U.S. enemies! So many times conservatives have complained about treason, and here someone is caught redhanded.
Then, President Obama commuted Manning's sentence and had Mannign fully released. IF YOU SUPPORT ASSANGE YOU ARE SUPPORTING OBAMA AND LEGALIZING TREASON. Explain to me why you think Obama is so wonderful that he did this?
Now that Manning is free, Manning is an activist for extreme transgender rights. "Chelsea Manning" advocates for children to have surgery and puberty blockers and be taken away from their parents! Advocating for Riley Gaines, and anyone who fights against them to be put in jail!
