Queen’s catalog of hits and bestselling albums has been purchased for an eye-popping sum—one that appears to be historic. According to HitsDailyDouble, the rights to the band’s music have been acquired for well north of $1 billion.
Sony Music is the company that agreed to pay that figure, which also includes other rights connected to the rockers. According to Variety, the deal doesn’t feature monies connected to live performances...

Treading on dead man’s bones.
Also can't stand Van Halen and Guns-N-Roses.
There, I said it.
That talented Camilla. No wonder Charles couldn’t resist.
There really is no accounting for taste as they say.
I have always wondered what makes this group so popular..
Me neither
Is there an unwritten law that says we have to?
The lead singer of a rock band named Queen was gay.......I swear, that never even occurred to me back in the 80s......😏
Not bad. One billion dollars.
Sony will make it back. No problem.
Disney still owns the North American rights.
The first two Van Halen albums were ground breaking if you were into 80s rock when they came out.....after that their efforts began to fade IMO, and although I was happy that jackass that is david Lee Roth moved on, when sammy hagar came in the music mellowed and lost the edge.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Sammy but he shoulda brought the Red Rocker... and didn’t.
+1 on G&R.....axel rose is another butthead IMO.
Theirs was an interesting relationship.
They met when she was 19 and he was 24, they instantly “fell in love” and lived together for many years and were engaged, but never married.
Thinking he was having an affair with another woman, Mary confronted him and learned it wasn’t a woman and Freddy eventually told Mary he was bi-sexual, but she never believed that, and she told him he was gay. She went on to have a relationship with a man have two children with him and married another man who she divorced after 5 years.
But even after their breakup, they remained extremely close. She worked for many years for his management co. went on tours with the band and he bought her a house after their “romantic” break up. She also stood by him and tried to help him through his years of drug abuse and sexual excess and was with him at his bedside when he died of AIDS.
When he died, he left her half his reported $75 million estate, including the 28-room London mansion in which he passed away and Austin still lives in to this day. (I’m not sure if that is still the case) but she raised her two children in that house and abided by his wish that it wouldn’t be turned into a museum and remain a family home.
“All my lovers ask me why they couldn’t replace Mary, but it’s simply impossible. The only friend I’ve got is Mary, and I don’t want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage.”
He allegedly wrote the song “Love of my Life” to Mary. Although not written by Mercury the song “You’re My Best Friend” seems to sum their relationship up best.
Same for REM frontman!
“The lead singer of a rock band named Queen was gay.......I swear, that never even occurred to me back in the 80s”
You are kind of slow aren’t you?
I assumed it right off.
I suppose my So. California upbringing taught
me how to observe for such things.
Situational awareness.
The only rock albums I ever bought were Queen, Iron Butterfly and Blondie. Like their music, not their lifestyle.
I prefer Bob Wills type music and Big Bands of the past.
Lots of Classical!
So don’t listen to them... There i said it.
The power of the homosexual zeitgeist
The richest man in the graveyard....
Freddy was also godfather to both of her children, by all accounts the children love him.
A.I. will reconstruct Freddie Mercury, and there will be new Queen songs.
Will this deal account for that eventuality?
