'Trump bad, Obama good' - Wikipedia's bias REVEALED, and how it affects you
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 21 2024 | JAMES REINL

Researchers have uncovered what many Wikipedia users have long feared — that it's slanted against conservatives.

A study from the Manhattan Institute, a right-leaning think tank, says it has uncovered 'evidence of political bias embedded in Wikipedia articles.'

Donald Trump and other former right-wing presidents are presented in a negative light, the study says, while Barack Obama and other liberal leaders are puffed with positive write-ups.

I haven’t been by there in a while but at one point, Pres Trump was portrayed worse than Adolph, Josef and Chairman Mao added together. This is a while back but there was not one negative line on the communism page as an example.

Yep.
In the early 2000s I contributed to various article pages. Usually just rare things that were not common knowledge that I happened to be familiar with. I didn’t make it a habit of going around interjecting on subjects that I knew others could be experts on. But almost any time I contributed something, some pretentious little snoot would get on there and reverse it, and use excuses like “no evidence” or “cite sources”. Once I added and changed some information about a website that I was personally familiar with the development of, and yet again, I had my content backed out of the article. It wasn’t worth going through the steps and effort to prove my knowledge on the subject. There were plenty of snoots throwing their weight around, feeling all in control.

Just like with the MSM, and more recently so many ‘influencers’ on social media, people get drunk with the delusion of power and grandeur that comes with believing you can influence social and political narrative. Even things that should be simple facts are used as weapons for social slant.

My few attempts at editing were also immediately reversed. Even little spelling or grammar corrections would disappear. I also got messages like, “Sorry but your IP address has been blocked from editing due to abusive behavior.” ??? Wikipedia is a joke.

That’s how encyclopedias work. Sources are cited. Britannica is probably the best known, and its entries are usually accompanied by multiple citations, sometimes contradictory where the sources differ. The idea is readers can check the source material for themselves or delve further into a subject beyond the blurbs featured in encyclopedia entries.

Yet, the people who were doing the reversing had absolutely no basis for their action. It was something I had first hand knowledge of and they did not. Things I knew to be a fact. To cite a source, I would have been forced to cite myself, and prove my identity. Again, not worth it, when I just wanted to contribute to the public body of knowledge on a topic to which I was position to have first hand exclusive or limited access to. The people who were doing other edits and contributions often did not have their challenged, and the people who reversed mine had no authority on the subject.

That makes sense, and it’s unfortunate your particular specialty ended up being given short shrift. But the bulk of the material on the website involves non-unique information with multiple sources. I’ve picked up a good number of sources from Wikipedia citations. Hugh Kennedy is an excellent source for the story of how a Christian heresy possibly ripped off from the Monophysites became Islam and eventually engulfed North Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia. Like the sources or not, the events cited can be cross-checked.

Wikipedia gurus attend conventions where these things are agreed upon & discussed.

I discovered this going through history of edits on their “Earth Day” article, to watch Ira Einhorn gradually reappear as you went back in time.

A few clicks revealed one of the main editors on that page (I think they are “assigned” certain areas to monitor), who had regularly attended annual global conferences of like-minded individuals. It was obvious from the conference pages it was not just a lib-fest, but a NWO-fest.

Who was funding it was obscure, and as you may have guessed, those links have long since disappeared.

Thank you for sharing that. Yes, it has always been a propaganda machine catering to the global agenda. And it really ramped up before Obama’s run. They started rewriting history and reality.

“Just like with the MSM, and more recently so many ‘influencers’ on social media, people get drunk with the delusion of power and grandeur that comes with believing you can influence social and political narrative. Even things that should be simple facts are used as weapons for social slant.”

That can be said for forum moderators too... :)
