I'm lucky. I'm armed when I go to NYC. 99.99% of people there are not able to arm themselves (although I would suggest a small stun gun to be carried at all times. They are legal).
Normal people are terrified when they go into the subway because they know they will encounter a criminal or a crazy person (or both) or lunatics like this supporter of terrorism.
