A Russian submarine that just left Cuba appears to be 'falling apart' with its soundproofing panels falling off, analyst says

One of Russia's newest and most advanced submarines, which just left Cuba, appears to be "falling apart" and to have damage to its hull, an open-source-intelligence analyst said.

Marijn Markus, a managing consultant at Capgemini, shared four photos of the nuclear-powered Kazan in a LinkedIn post on Monday.

Markus said it appeared the sub's soundproofing panels were "falling off" the front part of the submarine's hull. He said that would make the vessel "very" loud underwater and compromise its stealth capabilities.

He also pointed to what he described as a "gaping" hole at the sub's midsection.

"While docked, Russian divers were seen around the sub, presumably trying to repair the tin tub," he said.

Markus didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Russia has a terrible navy and terrible quality of ships, sailors, and maintenance, and they probably have a bear of a time with that soundproofing, but even we have a few issues with it.

They had the same builder who built the pier in Gaza.

The panels are not soundproofing. The panels are “anechoic” panels that deaden active sonar return ping. No one uses active sonar anymore so they are useless anyway.

Russia, whether under the Tsars or the Communists, has never had a record of naval success. The Japanese Navy defeated the Russian Navy in 1905. Both Lenin and Stalin saw the Soviet Union as a land power and spent few resources on the Red Navy. Their main nemesis, Nazi Germany, did not try to outclass the American or British Navies and focused most of their resources on land and air forces.

IN the 1970s, Brezhnev made an attempt to build a blue water navy for the USSR to challenge American naval power. When Reagan became President, the Soviets could not keep up with the American defense expenditures, a fact that sped the collapse of the USSR.

While I recognize that Business Insider is a Deep State media asset, what they are reporting is not implausible.

Well, last I checked, the sound panels did not force the Russikie sub to run into an underwater mountain like the US sub USS Connecticut did a couple of years ago.

“No one uses active sonar anymore so they are useless anyway.”

Surface ship towed arrays are active, as are sonobouys dropped by aircraft.

Only subs don’t use active sonar...or very rarely so.
