Is the Office of Special Counsel Retaliating Against the Very Whistleblowers It's Supposed to Protect?

It seems that every thread the House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees pull reveals yet another tangled web of incompetence, if not outright corruption, in our federal government. Add the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) to the list of suspect agencies now.

On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) joined with the chairs of the Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees (James Comer (R-KY), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Jason Smith (R-MO)) to direct a letter to Karen Gorman, Acting Principal Deputy Special Counsel for the OSC, inquiring into actions taken by the agency in response to retaliation claims by IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler.

the letter

Why, yes. That's certainly an exceptionally strongly worded letter from the House Overstroke er... Oversight Committee. Good for them. Bravo.

It’s the start of a process that will hopefully lead to criminal referrals on the desk of Trump’s AG (hopefully Ken Paxton or Kash Patel) on Day One.

I admire your optimism and I pray you’re right.

On the flip side, I’ve witnessed a LOT of “House oversight” that yielded absolutely no fruit.

Yes, but what can they do when the Attorney General is a crook and the DOJ is a democrat machine? Anna Paulina Luna has brought up the ability of the House to order the marshall (I forget the name of the official) to arrest Merrick Garland for inherent contempt, but I think that only applies to contempt of Congress charges, not all the other crimes the DOJ refuses to prosecute.

That’s why it is so critical that we get Trump in office and at least the House under R control, so we have criminal referrals and an AG who will clean house at the DOJ and will do his actual duty to pursue justice. When that happens we can at least loosen the grip of the Deep State. If we could also neuter the CIA/intel community’s “six ways from Sunday at getting back at you” it could go a long way towards getting the legislative branch back to serving the people rather than serving the cabal.

So much is at stake. It is critical that we don’t allow ourselves to become too weary to continue the fight, because we actually do have the best chance we’ve ever had to get rid of the cabal controlling DC. If we hold fast and help others to not give up also.

AMEN to that!

We need the Senate too — or else that house-cleaning AG, indeed most of President Trump’s cabinet, will not be confirmed.

That’s not the fault of the House. Only the President has the power to order prosecutions. Trump either wasn’t interested or lacked what allegedly senile Joe has - the skill to get politically-motivated prosecutions going without leaving himself legally exposed. Congress can’t prosecute anyone. Only the executive branch can.

The House could hold funding until these agencies begin to respond. Not holding my breath.

I remember Trump was told he couldn’t ask the AG to prosecute someone BUT HE can ask them to investigate a crime.
