Many pundits are saying its too late. I would tend to agree with them. Many of the ballots are already made, many people voted already. They cant say "If you vote or voted for Biden we are giving your vote to xxx". Doesn't work like that.

That leaves Kamala, Hilary and the Mooch as spoilers. It would be a huge mistake for Gavin Newsome to make a run but the guy is as dumb as he is power hungry so you never can tell.

As hard as it is to believe, the Democrats may just try to carry Dementia Joe over the finish line.

That has been exactly my theory for over a year now. Reelect
Biden along with VP Harris. Then at some point in the term Biden
to step down and the USA has a Female President. How long she
could serve depends upon the timing of the Biden step down. If
after the midterm then VP Harris could step into the Presidency
and serve the remainder and be legible for electable for two
full terms on her own.

I don't know anything about an elite, desperate Democratic secret plot for a bait-and-switch replacement for OBiden at the Democratic National Convention.

But if such is the case, then the votes of qualified citizens who voted for OBiden in the primaries of the corrupt, constitutionally undefined political parties are going to be unconstitutionally thrown out despite Democratic "all votes count" mantra imo.

More specifically, consider the zero tolerance "hair trigger" wording of Section 2 of the 14th Amendment (14A), that section a penalty for states where ballot box fraud has occurred, ignoring primary votes is arguably a violation of that section.

They may have no choice—If in the middle of the debates—Joe freezes up—its over. He resigns and pardons all as he goes. Harris takes over—Now “handled” she will cut the giggles and do what she is told. She selects Hillary or Michelle Obama as her VP. Then after election and Trump is out of the picture, she can resign due to scandals. We have Hillary as President, she will select General Wesley Clark as her VP.

Will aging Joe bow out of the 2024 race? Will he be forced to step aside?

Answer? A., one somehow suspects.

Out of a host of possible paths, the most likely appears to be to let Mister Biden go for as long as possible, then fake an illness that takes him out of the race.

What's in it for Joe? No more pushing himself beyond his apparent limit. The "pasture" might look pretty good.

What's in it for the Dems to do a bait and switch? Whomever they have ostensibly selected months or years earlier to now pretend to be surprised and dumbfounded and not really want the job but will step in for this "urgent" call to duty will not have to answer bothersome questions or undergo any major public scrutiny.

AND, it would be after the primaries, so no pesky votes from the Dem constituents. Remember, the party that (IIRC) invented Super Delegates might have little interest in that actual "democracy" thingie.

All just my guesses, but I'd wager my allowance on it (if I got an allowance.)

Hadn't thought about Roy Cooper. North Carolina is a beautiful state with a vibrant economy, as you say, but unfortunately has attracted too many liberal Yankees in recent decades, making it a swing state. Newsome's only plus is having good-looking hair. Cooper's isn't bad (assuming it's not a toupee) and he doesn't have Newsome's negatives. So he could be dangerous.

Getting rid of Kamala is the Democrats' big problem. They don't have any black woman to replace her who would help the ticket and be seen as an acceptable President if something happened to the President. If Biden had picked Val Demings in 2020 instead of Kamala, they would be probably going all out to get him off the ticket now. Demings came across well in the first impeachment hearings but gave up her Congressional seat to run for governor of Florida.

If only Sheila Jackson Lee didn't have health issues...
