Part of the doom porn love fest is attributable to “engagement.” That is, sensational and usually negative “news” gets clicks and attention and (ultimately) drives advertising revenue. Social media thrives on that mental hook. You can see it in FR - stories that are positive don’t get nearly as many posters as doom pr0n.
The other element at play is “alternative media” becoming more trusted by Deplorables simply because it’s alternative. Fair enough - we’ve been poked and punched and gaslighted bigly by the Authorities for a long time, most notably during the pandemic. But that “alternative media,” in general, sucks bigly. Gateway Pundit, Slay News, et al are chock full of reposted garbage void of facts.
Add to this mix that these Alternatives are also pushing engagement/fear. The result is formerly rational Americans lapping up stupid stories, like everyone who’s been vaxxed will die in 3.4 years or Klaus Schwab said he will eat grandma to stop climate change.
I get it. The press and leftists want you to think it’s 1937 and Trump et al are Hitler. This is their moment to prove to history that, unlike the German citizenry back then, THEY are smarter and will stop “evil.” It’s a very narcissistic mindset. It’s also BS. And we know it.
At the same time, the jar-shakers want us red ants to believe that Bidet is Stalin and if he’s re-elected our guns will be taken while your daughters will eat bugs and sons will wear a dress.
Now, I know dementia when I see it, and the ultra-leftists are truly disturbing. Never say never.
However, to embrace this surrender fantasy requires that we embrace despair, a lack of self-determination, and that WE are in the majority. And yet, more and more alleged conservatives have become Eeyores, many of them typing bravely about CWII from their Mom’s basement.
Or, they’re paid provocateurs.

To be clear, I’m not recommending we be Pollyanna or blind.
I remember liberals and conservatives smarting after the 2004 and 2012 elections, respectively. But, in general everyone was an adult about it. Everyone brushed themselves off, assessed where they went wrong, and made changes.
However, you’d have to be a NeverTrumper or intentionally obtuse to think the past few years were a 2004- or 2012-like business as usual election season. We can debate if this was a long time in the making or not. Regardless, the mask is off.
There is a large swath of online bandwidth split between the Eeyores and the CWII posters that are “conservative.” In general, I view these folks as being full of themselves. They, sadly, have been seduced by all this nonsense and believe their own hype.
There is a two-pronged strategy needed.
Trump (it sure won’t be the RNC) needs to mobilize legal resources and manpower to combat the ballot harvesting. The corollary to that first prong is what to do once he wins the election.
The second prong is a hearts-and-minds strategy which, frankly, we are winning. Rappers are joining Trump onstage. The Covid narrative is collapsing - 6 feet distancing was a sham. More and more acquaintances who were covid Karens and Brandons have gotten the virus despite taking the jab, and are now saying wtf. And Bidet is a walking political ad for Trump. Dropping these nuggets into conversation builds affinity bias.
Hope is not a business plan. But neither is despair. Be well.
