I would have preferred if Thomas’s teammates had complained a lot louder while he was making a mocker of women’s swimming, as opposed to now when they’ve got nothing to lose.

They did complain loudly, as did their parents, but were shamed, and told they would be subjected to university discipline and possibly ejected — many of these women were in their junior or senior years and had worked since childhood to be a college athlete and compete in the league. Some had scholarships they would have lost.
