The U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed an amendment as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025.
The amendment H.R. 8070 will automatically register all draft-age male U.S. residents with the Selective Service System for a possible military draft, based on information from other Federal databases.
This new system of automatic draft registration would replace the existing system, in place since 1980, in which young men have the freedom to decide whether or not to sign up for the draft.
According to People’s World, the automatic draft registration proposal was initiated by the Selective Service System (SSS) as part of its annual budget request to Congress.
The Gateway Pundit reported that it was introduced by Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.). Houlahan is a former Air Force officer. It was endorsed by HASC Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) and approved by a voice vote of the full committee without audible opposition.
The amended bill states:
Automatic Registration: The Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S.C. 3801 et seq.) is amended by striking section 3 (50 U.S.C. 3802) and inserting the following new section 3:
“SEC. 3. (a)(1) Except as otherwise provided in this title, every male citizen of the United States, and every other male person residing in the United States, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six, shall be automatically registered under this Act by the Director of the Selective Service System.
“(2) This section shall not apply to any alien lawfully admitted to the United States as a nonimmigrant under section 101(a)(15) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101) for so long as he continues to maintain a lawful nonimmigrant status in the United States.
The bill was approved in the House with a vote of 217 to 199. Among the votes, 211 Republicans supported the measure, while Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Thomas Massie (KY), and Matt Rosendale (MT) voted no.
196 Democrats voted against the bill, with 6 breaking ranks to vote in favor. The legislation now advances to the Senate for further deliberation.
In an X post, Rep. Greene defended her decision to vote no on the bill.
“Today I voted NO on the NDAA. While there were many great things in the bill, it still allocates the annual $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative which is used to fund the war in Ukraine. I am adamantly opposed to the war in Ukraine and I do not think funding a foreign war should be a mandatory annual funding requirement in our US military funding bill. The House also passed a measure automatically registering men aged 18 to 26 for selective service as part of the NDAA. I think we all know where that could lead.”
Today I voted NO on the NDAA.
While there were many great things in the bill, it still allocates the annual $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative which is used to fund the war in Ukraine.

Today, the House passed H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. This legislation is designed to enhance our national security and military readiness with a special focus on quality of life for our military community. H.R. 8070 authorizes a 19.5% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers while providing a 4.5% pay raise for other service members. Importantly, this legislation includes three amendments from Congressman Huizenga that address NATO funding, arctic security, and mitigating American military data from being siphoned, exposed, or shared with Communist China. H.R. 8070 passed the House by a vote of 217-209.
“This legislation strengthens our military readiness and capabilities while improving housing, childcare, and the overall quality of life for the men and women serving in our Armed Forces,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “Importantly, this legislation takes steps to root out waste, saving taxpayers $30 billion by cutting inefficient programs, obsolete weapons systems, and unnecessary Pentagon bureaucracy. Additionally, this bill blocks the Biden Administration’s reduction in U.S. Special Forces while stopping the Biden Administration from transferring terrorists currently housed in Guantanamo Bay to prisons in the United States. Lastly, this legislation includes multiple amendments I have authored to enhance our national security and counter aggressive actions taken by Russia and China.”
This year’s House version of the NDAA included three amendments from Congressman Huizenga:
Expresses the sense of Congress that each NATO member state should commit, at a minimum, 2% of its GDP to defense spending to ensure NATO’s military readiness. In 2022, only 7 of the 31 NATO member states met their obligations. Now, nearly all NATO countries have a plan to reach the 2% goal, however, there are still some that remain delinquent. Those countries are Canada, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Belgium, and Luxembourg. There is the potential for this to be addressed at the upcoming NATO Summit held in Washington, D.C. next month.
Requires the Department of Defense to report to Congress building upon the restriction on DOD’s contact with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) by detailing measures DOD is taking to mitigate the risk of the PLA gaining indirect knowledge of US Armed Forces’ equipment and operational tactics, techniques, and produces through interaction with the militaries of US allies and partners. Requires a report to Congress on the military activities of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China in the Arctic Region. Additionally, the amendment requests detailed information on the Arctic Council as well as the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador-at-large for the Arctic Region and how the U.S. plans to engage with other Council members. Recently, the Arctic has seen an uptick in activity from both the Russians and the Chinese Communist Party. This amendment is designed to refocus the effort with our strategic partners and allies to prevent expansion of both China and Russia in the region.

No, I just went in, that is why after jump school I got sent to the 9th Infantry Division instead of the 82nd, 7 of us unassigned did because we had been trained as artillerymen and artillery instructors and the army was experimenting with troops skipping AIT and us teaching them to be 13As when they arrived at our unit.
That isn't the historical use of such troops.
They will be used to suppress domestic revolts. They will be promised "a pathway to citizenship" as long as they follow some very unsavory orders.
They will do what they are told to do. Being from somewhere far away makes that a lot easier.

They also can't survive in any kind of peer-opponent conflict. If there is a war, they will be ground up faster than newbies can be drafted. Conscription will not solve the problems of the military. It will add some interesting new ones.
The skipping AIT thing is weird isn’t it, they were also rotating officers around to give them experience, for instance our battery commander came from aviation.

Most of the wars during America’s history were started by Democrats. When Trump exited the Presidency he had ended participation in all wars in which America’s young people died. Now, just look at how many conflicts BiteMe has gotten the US involved in; with perhaps World War III to begin before the scumbag is finally removed from office. He is the ultimate loose cannon because he thinks his political acumen should allow him to be Dicktator.

I believe the Marines do that with their pilots also, I can’t say that I liked it but that isn’t based on any big view of the bigger picture, I just thought he was too nice to handle us, I liked him and respected him but I wanted a harder Captain than he was.

In a way, it does.
Military life sets a regular and productive schedule for living.
Legalized Marijuana will reverse that unfortunately.
And we could draft that kind of a number because the government went through the steps and followed the process; there was a declaration of war.
I registered at 18. At 19 I was drafted. Fun times.
Look up Deborah Samson, she served in the Revolutionary War.
I remember when my (ex)husband and I were sitting with a roomful of other students watching the lottery. Fun times. :( His number was relatively low — under than 100. I guess I could check for sure, but I don’t remember his birthday.
Were you applying for college tuition aid at 18? Young men are required to sign up for Selective Service when they apply for FAFSA.
