MOSCOW (AP) — U.S. journalist Evan Gershkovich, who has been jailed for over a year in Russia on espionage charges, will stand trial in the Ural Mountains city of Yekaterinburg, where he was detained, authorities said Thursday.

An indictment of The Wall Street Journal reporter has been finalized and his case was filed to the Sverdlovsky Regional Court in the city about 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) east of Moscow, according to Russia’s Prosecutor General’s office. There was no word on when the trial would begin.

Gershkovich, 32, is accused of “gathering secret information” on orders from the CIA about Uralvagonzavod, a facility in the Sverdlovsk region that produces and repairs military equipment, the Prosecutor General’s office said in a statement, revealing for the first time the details of the accusations against him.

Gershkovich was detained while on a reporting trip to Yekaterinburg in March 2023 and accused of spying for the United States. The reporter, his employer and the U.S. government denied the allegations, and Washington designated him as wrongfully detained...

Does anyone know what sort of reporter he is? Is he a Neo-conservative? Could be wrong but they can be like that from the WSJ...

He’ll be OK, if doesn’t get a care package from his wife like the one that Navalny got from his wife...

He was may have been collecting information on refurbishment rates for tanks destined for UKR.

In totalitarian regimes truth is a state secret.

They’re 40 year old tanks! The only reason they are ‘militarily important’ is because the state of Russian industry has not evolved but deteriorated. What’s next safeguarding “secret” T-34 specifications?

“Does anyone know what sort of reporter he is? Is he a Neo-conservative?”

The WSJ’s reporters used to be far-left (which is no different than the Neocons, regarding Russia and the Ukraine War), while their Editorial Page was conservative (when it meant something). Since then, who knows. But if I were his family, I’d be suing the hell out of the WSJ, for essentially sending him to a Russian prison, when the had to know the risks of trying to interview workers leaving a tank factory during a ‘full-scale war’ (LOL).

Jao Bai Dan regime has no interest in his status b/c-
WSJ is not fully under control of regime and occasionally prints stories which regime does not approve of (aka “truth”)

Journalist in question is not a DEI hire or is a member of protected/favored “oppressed” group - gay/lesbian/trans/person of color

Thus regime position: Too bad so sad-

I find it difficult to have sympathy for any “journalist”, anywhere. Journalisim is not a noble profession.

Agreed. Russia has been unclear on the concept lately. They are supposed to imprison people that we WANT BACK. Instead they imprison journalists and lesbian basketball players.

So are you suggesting that Gershkovich was just out in middle of nowhere Russia photographing (interviewing) flora and fauna?
maybe the farm has a different opinion as to it’s value
