Trump endorses Larry Hogan to represent Maryland in the Senate

Article Dig Deeper Former President Donald Trump endorsed former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan for the U.S. Senate on Thursday, despite Hogan urging voters to respect Trump's verdict in his New York hush money case.

Trump was convicted of 34 charges related to a hush money payment he made to former porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and is expected to appeal the verdict and his subsequent sentence. He will be sentenced on July 11.

The former president said that he was personally "about the party" and the country, and would like to see Hogan win the Senate seat in November. Hogan is running as a Republican, and was elected governor as a Republican. But he has faced pushback from party members over his stances on abortion.

“Yeah, I’d like to see him win. I think he has a good chance to win,” Trump told a Fox News reporter. “We gotta take the majority. We have to straighten out our country. So I’d like to see him win. He’s somebody that can win … I know other people made some strong statements, but I can just say from my standpoint, I’m about the party and I’m about the country."

Hogan, whose campaign later told the reporter he would not be supporting Trump, previously vowed that he would not vote for Trump in November and would vote for a third party candidate instead. Hogan previously endorsed Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination when she was still in the race.

Sucking up to those Senate snakes in R jerseys is NOT a good look.

My observations are confirmed. JR has requested that we all unite for November. Disrupters should join him.

This reminds me of that cartoon template with the guy sweating which button to hit. “Trump endorsed Hogan” vs “Voting for Hogan.”

No conservative can win in Maryland. Hogan is not a conservative, even though he is a Republican. He is a successful businessman and every once in a while, Maryland elects a Republican to try to get its finances straightened out.

“ I detect that behind close doors, Hogan said to trump, “don’t take it personally, it’s just what i gotta say to have any chance in this stupid state.” Trump responds... “It’s all good, let’s do this.”
::::::::::
I wish this is what happened, but I doubt it very much. Hogan was outspoken in his disrespect and disdain for Trump while Trump was president. Hogan could’ve just kept his mouth shut on personality and endorsed Trump’s policies, but Hogan made a point of being nasty about Trump.

Trump is still smart to try to get Hogan elected. we need a majority in the Senate.

People stay where they are for good reasons of their own.

“I wish this is what happened, but I doubt it very much. “

Your point is well taken, and in maryland it matters very little whether his disrespect is intentional or a facade. It is in the interest of both sides of that argument for hogan to appear hostile to trump. If it were more detectable then the maryland voters would be less likely to swallow it. So if you don’t detect the subterfuge then that is a very good thing. I detect it only insomuch as it explains a great many things. An overt conservative candidate in maryland doesnt stand a chance given the way the democrats have jerrymandered districts to their advantage.

Trump doesnt need for hogan to like him. Trump needs hogan to get elected to paint the senate red. Hopefully the phrase ‘tip the senate red’ will not be applicable as it would be way better if the senate victories were sufficient to make it so that hogan does not become a ‘crucial swing vote’. As long as hogan can vote against trumps initiatives and not cause any harm then Maryland will be a safe red senate seat. But when trump needs hogans vote to pass his agenda, then that endangers both the agenda and the seat. Hogan can be counted on to be a small (r) republican. So if you want to maintain maryland in the red senate category, then dont count on him for votes. Conservatives are not going to like that he needs to often side with democrats to maintain the seat. We need to just remember that and that the only way to fix that is to redraw the maryland districts so that they truly represent the populations interests.

That’s how i think the politics will work.

I hope you are correct about Hogan. I was living in Maryland when there was a referendum on the ballot about the gerrymandering. Republicans gathered more than enough signatures to have it on the ballot. Then the majority Dem state legislature in Annapolis worded the initiative something like…

Agree or disagree: Congressional districts must be drawn according to the United States Constitution

Many people who voted “agree” were unaware of the extreme gerrymandering. If they had ever seen a proposed map, many of them would have voted “disagree” The US Constitution only requires that congressional district be contiguous and approximately equal in population.

Some Congressional districts in Maryland go for several miles along a single road to connect two completely different voting blocks, essentially disenfranchising the 40% Republicans who could never possibly win and thus can be ignored.
