My mom is 95 with dementia. She has conversations with people, usually kids (that aren't there...at least in this dimension) and occasionally yells at them because they are "taking her stuff". Always thinks she's going somewhere(packs her clothes any time during day/night), looks in every other direction when I talk to her, obviously not (mentally) hearing what I am saying (well, most of the time).

I recently found out Memory Care for her will be $8000 a month.

...I'm also finding out, why.

I had an aunt who could carry on a five minute conversation and seem pretty lucid. But if you went past that point…you would realize she was just way over the hill.

We sectioned her to the hospital (My wife and I were appointed by the court) and the doctor went in to interview her. It was a doctor my wife knew pretty well. The doctor came out two or three minutes later and said, “She seems fine.”

My wife put her arm around the doc and walked her back to the room. She said, “Give it another give minutes.”

About four minutes later the doc came back out, just saying, “Oh my….”

That is where we are with Joe,.
