Who’s the Trump VP Pick? Latest Odds for Every Shortlist Candidate.
The Intelligencer ^ | June 10, 2024 | Margaret Hartmann

Posted on 06/10/2024 12:10:04 PM PDT by richardtavor

This is yet another aspect of the 2024 race where the normal rules don’t quite apply. Candidates typically want a potential vice president who can “balance” the ticket demographically, ideologically, or geographically. Even Trump succumbed to this thinking in 2016: Mike Pence got the gig because he was a boring, midwestern, ultraconservative Christian with some governing experience — basically the opposite of the erratic, boorish New York TV personality. But this concession to the RNC ultimately backfired (in Trump’s mind) because Pence wouldn’t participate in his January 6 coup attempt.

Now that Trump’s GOP takeover is complete, he’s free to pick anyone he wants. His allies have reportedly urged him to pick a woman or a Black man as his running mate, but it seems most of the finalists are men. He’ll probably put a lot of stock in personal loyalty and who has “the look” (he’s known to base hiring decisions on whether candidates are “out of central casting”). This is creepy and inappropriate, but it’s something you have to consider when trying to predict Trump’s VP pick.

Trump said he will announce his VP choice at the Republican National Convention, which begins on July 15 in Milwaukee. He revealed Pence was his pick just days before the 2016 convention.

Here’s a list (which we’ll keep updated) of who is believed to be on Trump’s shortlist for vice president, and the pros and cons of each possibility, loosely arranged from the candidates with the best odds to the worst.

“He’s 77….what are the odds in the next 4years”

I don’t think he has good odds living over the next 5 months.

Pompeo was loyal to Trump but he was the head of CIA. So I think he was playing games. It was an act by Pompeo so he could be close to Trump and feed Intel to the Deep State.

So the real question is who can crush the President in waiting, Kamala, in a debate. So people shudder at the thought of elected an infirm Biden with her logically stepping into the role in perhaps months.

Pompeo purposely conspired with Gina Haspell to withhold critical information from Trump, his boss, and the President Of The United States. Is that a good thing?

I don’t know who will be the VP pick, but I can tell you it won’t be Rick Scott or Marco Rubio.

“I know I’m gonna get hate, but I do like Tulsi.”

****************

Its not so much a matter of liking Tulsi as it is what she can bring to the table. She has bit time creds in terms of her military background, and independents and some Dems unhappy with Biden could be swayed by her. And she has exposure to politics at the highest levels. She’s also a woman of color. Checks some significant boxes.

The one thing she doesn’t bring to the table is electoral votes. Despite that, Trump should seriously consider her IMO.

I haven’t been a big fan of hers in the past because of her liberal bent, but if she could help Trump win over some groups that he needs, well that’s the real objective here.

I’m with you. A Pit Bull who knows where the bodies are buried. Rubio could do the job. No, you can’t have JD because DeWune will appoint Matt Dolan in his place. I wouldn’t like that

Two white guys on the ticket might not work. Not saying that’s right, just saying.

“I could not in good conscience vote against impeachment because I believe President Trump is guilty of wrongdoing.” Tulsi Gabbard

You can’t be serious. She’s Mike Pence in a skirt! Johnson, Gabbard and McConnell would ensure a second failed Trump administration.

Good for you.

I am very disappointed that Tulsi is out of the running.

That ticket would have been landslide material.

“Carson is not Swamp.”

*************

True but does he have the gravitas and forceful personality to stand up the the world’s bullies in this time of increasing global instability? I can’t imagine him rallying the country with powerful speeches and forging strong alliances. He has the temperament and demeanor of an MD, which is all good if you’re not fighting multiple crises.

The next big winning bet is going to be an anti-woke national unity ticket.

Down home democrats have a number of winning issues. The GOP is a shrinking minority.

Until the GOP is replaced by a nationalist right wing party, running with a Democrat who is also a patriot like Tulsi would have been a very good idea.
