‘Failure of the negotiations’: Israel’s hostage rescue leads to one of the bloodiest days in the war
NBC News | Comcast ^ | June 9, 2024 | By Freddie Clayton (H-NBC)

n Israel, the news of four hostages rescued from Gaza was met with cheering crowds and tearful scenes of reuniting families. Officials hailed the operation as miraculous and heroic, and offered a rare win for Israel's embattled Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

But it came at the expense of hundreds of Palestinians, who suffered one of the bloodiest days in Gaza. Video filmed by an NBC News crew on the ground showed streets scattered with charred bodies, survivors gathering body parts into sacks, rescuers carrying mangled and blood-soaked children into chaotic hospitals overwhelmed with the injured.

By Sunday, joy in Israel was fading and giving way to the realities of a war that has dragged on for nine months and whose fissures and deep divisions remained largely unchanged by the rescue.

“What we saw yesterday is actually failure of the negotiations,” Yossi Mekelberg, an associate fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House, said in a phone interview with NBC News.

“Had there been a cease-fire, these hostages would already have been at home, and the civilians that were killed yesterday would be alive," Mekelberg said.

The destruction wrought during the rescue is unlikely to ease Israel's isolation from an international community that has censured Israel for months over the civilian death toll in Gaza. United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese said in a statement that she was “Relieved that four hostages have been released," but that “it should not have come at the expense of Palestinians.”

NBC are the scum of the earth! They are intimating that hamas “released “ the hostages and the big bad idf killed them for it.

NBC and their despicable evil ilk are about as low as people can get morally while not actually breaking the law-

Hamas has never entertained a scenario in which they would release all of the hostages, and the ones they are willing to to release are for release of terrorists in Israeli jails at a ratio of 30 to 50 for every hostage. Even the Gazans who aren’t card carrying Hamas members seem to be willing die to protect Hamas. We need to recognize that the Palestinians value the killing of Jews above the lives of their own children. That’s just the way things are.

Pretty likely the youngsters cheering on 9/11 could have been flying the gliders happily on 10/7/2023.

There is no solution to the “Palestine” question. It must be recognized that the best outcome that is realistic is containment of Islamic barbaric savagery to a tolerable level.

They’ve completely forgotten who started this war.

...and how they started it with murdering 1200 civians, killing men, women, children, and beheading babies in their cribs. What happened during the rescue was simply a small piece of karma that, hopefully, will be paid in full.

Any *failure* of negotiations lays directly at the feet of the terrorists. They’re the ones who took them in the first place and there’s NOTHING stopping them from releasing them this instant.

It’s not that they can’t.

They WON’T.

That was that idiot and we know all about Francesca Albanese, la stronza antisemitica. Here is the cv for the last person interviewed:

Yossi Mekelberg has been an associate fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House since 2002.

He was previously professor of international relations at Regent’s University, where he was head of the international relations and social sciences programme, and the faculty lead on outreach projects. He had taught at Regent’s University since 1996, and before that at King’s College, London.

His fields of expertise include the politics of the Middle East, Israeli politics, the Middle East peace process, international relations theory and US foreign policy towards the MENA region.

For four years he wrote a weekly column for the Al-Arabiya network before moving to write twice a week for Arab News. He is also a member of the Human Rights Watch London Committee.

In addition Yossi is a regular contributor to international media on a variety of international affairs issues.

I think we understand where he is coming from; the league of terrorist supporters.

Had there been a cease-fire, these hostages would already have been at hom

First, not on Biden's schedule they wouldn't be home yet. And second, once the cease fire was in place and US and UNWRA aid was flowing to Hamas why would they negotiate further? They would have what they wanted.

None of this would have even happened if they didn’t perpetrate Oct 7 in the first place.

They CHOSE to do that.

Now they can deal with the consequences.

There is no solution to the “Palestine” question.

Sure there is.

But nobody has the wherewithal to do it.

Everyone in the area, except the hostages, had ample time to get out.
So, free fire zone, there are no innocents. And, those killed are supporters of murderers.

“Had there been a cease-fire, these hostages would already have been at home, and the civilians that were killed yesterday would be alive," Mekelberg said.

Had Hamas maintained the ceasefire in effect at the beginning of October the Israelis would still be in their home and those killed yesterday including the Israeli soldier would still be alive today.
