Baltics join the ammunitions race

With a shortage of mortar shells in reserves across Europe, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are setting up their own ammunition factories to be ready in case of a potential attack from Russia.

In Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia — three Baltic states on the edge of the European Union that all share a border with Russia — defense is a key concern.

All the more so, since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine in February 2022. According to NATO statistics, the defense spending of the three states greatly exceeded the minimum 2% of GDP in 2023, and it is expected to rise this year.

“since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale attack”

Technically, they’re required to say “Full-Scale INVASION”, but given that the expression “Full-Scale” was used, I’m willing to give a pass on this and not report the mistake...it’s close enough, at least for me.

The Baltics need their own nukes. Anything less is not a deterrent to the uncultured, lying, thieving Ruzzians.

The population of the Baltics right now is 6.195 million. They should be able to come up with the Manhattan Project.

If the Israelis did it, no reason why they can't do it too?

GGG 7.62 NATO bulk ammunition from Lithuania is up in price and supplies very limited in the US due to the war.

Do those countries have the economies to support a massive increase in munition production?

Not if Uncle Sam can pay for it. But at this rate, we'll be bankrupt. So maybe the Germans.

Oh, the Baltic States will fight. To them it’s revenge for Communism. Needless to say, they’ll do about as well as they did in WW2, and thus have the pleasure of living under direct Russian rule for another 45 or so years.

If they fight the 2% defense expenditures should go up to 10.

Given the size of the Baltics and how quickly they are likely to be over-run, they are probably building ammunition factories for Putin.

Depends on whether we have NATO troops in the Baltics (Americans) or nuclear weapons.

I have been saying and writing for a while: The only thing the major powers respect is nuclear weapons.

“We do, the Baltic countries are NATO countries.”

They should have done this decades ago. They know the Russians, why did they wait?

If you mean the build up, that is what President Trump was telling them, and why he was moving troops to Poland and launched a nuclear buildup and withdrew from the INF treaty, and started sending weapons to Ukraine and threatening NATO slackers.

Europe was grown complacent and even depended on Russia for energy but this invasion and launching the biggest European War since WWII has forced everyone to wake up.

Even our allies in the Pacific have reacted to this Russian invasion. This invasion has shaken the world and and a lot of stale militaries, it was a splash of cold water.
