Fearful Columbia students who felt ‘intimidated’ by anti-Israel protests to get ‘safety escorts’ as part of lawsuit settlement

Petrified Columbia University students who have felt “harassed and intimidated” by anti-Israel protests which have gripped their college and disrupted learning for months will be provided safety escorts on campus.

The move is part of a settlement in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, where the Ivy League school will now offer “walking escorts” across campus and appoint a “safe passage liaison” to address any students concerns over protests.

Additionally, accommodations will be made for students who were displaced by the protests and couldn’t finish exams or assignments.

It resolves a proposed class action filed by a female Jewish student referred to as C.S. who claimed making students take online classes in response to protests showed how “dangerous” campus had become.

“This settlement sets the bar for how Columbia must protect its students,” Jay Edelson, a lawyer for C.S., said in a statement on Tuesday...

In April, the student filed a lawsuit saying her education had been disrupted by a hostile environment on campus when anti-Israel protesters put up encampments on Columbia’s lawns.

According to the filing against university trustees, Jewish students have been physically attacked and targeted by pro-Hamas hate speech.

The suit also accuses protestors of inciting violence against Jewish students and pro-Israel counter-protestors while on campus...

I assume Columbia will continue to teach about "white supremacy" and "white privilege," not at protests, but in the classroom.

And no escorts if that makes any white student feel unsafe.

The Ivy League where Jews need personal guards because of all of the enlightened leftist rich kids. When the civil war goes hot there’s gonna be a lot of dead ivy leaguers.

Exactly. These students need protection from the same group that's indoctrinating them. The staff at Columbia have been making monsters for a century using inflammatory anti-American and anti-white rhetoric but now act surprised when students turn on their master.

Why not just expel any and all students who committed or threatened violence? With maybe a restraining order to stay off campus.

The complaint isn't about any personal threats of violence, from any specific protestors, though there might have been a few of those.

The complaint is more broadly about the protests' anti-Israeli rhetoric, which create a "hostile environment" that makes some Jewish students feel unsafe.

In April, the student filed a lawsuit saying her education had been disrupted by a hostile environment on campus when anti-Israel protesters put up encampments on Columbia’s lawns.

No problem if the anti-white rhetoric in classrooms -- or DEI sessions -- makes white students "feel unsafe."

Then get some students and parents together to sue these Universities of Malarky for fomenting hatred. The door has been opened, so let us all go through.

Let us not ignore other solutions. Maybe it is time for these so-called Universities have their accreditation cancelled because they are teaching racism. That would make it difficult to receive federal funds.
