U.S. officials say the reopening of the Rafah crossing could be a first step in a wider post-war strategy for the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza.

Joe heard the tunnels need some overdue maintenance.

According to aquaintences that live there, the day that Netanyahu agrees to let Hamas stay in power and the day he suggests agreeing to a Two State Solution, will be his last day in office.

Seems like the IDF will split Gaza into north and south parts, there's a road in the middle of it controlled by the IDF. Rafah crossing will be controlled by the IDF. The civilian authority will be PLO but that can only happen after Hamas is destroyed.

Right now, Hamas is still fighting and hiding in the tunnels.

No- the Rafah crossing Hamas is desperate to re-open. Because the 80 tunnels between Egypt(Qatar) and Israel are being destroyed forever. Nothing coming in from that way.. sooo... Rafah (for “humanitarian” needs, like the floating dock JOKE from joebama, that floated away and never was an option. Hamas shooting at the trucks they couldn’t loot).

Egypt is stalling the aid through Rafah out of spite and appearances of solidarity. They don’t want Israel to operate the Gaza side of the crossing so they halted aid deliveries weeks ago. What is ironic and silly is that they are delivering the aid directly into Israel through their shared bordder, and Israel then trucks it to another Israeli crossing into Gaza. So it’s just all for appearances, and maybe a little leverage and to perpetuate the “starving people” PR.

Israel has to maintain security control over the Rafah crossing and the entire Philadelphi corridor (the border between Gaza and Egypt) for the foreseeable future. All smuggling tunnels have to be dismantled, and they have to ensure no future ones will be built.

Egyptian officials earlier said there were no such tunnels and that Israel was using the claims to justify its attack on Rafah.

So fill the tunnels with some high explosives, maybe some other goodies on the for side. Blow up the tunnels, and if the Egyptians complain about the pressure wave destroying any buildings in Egypt, well, obviously it wasn't Israel because none of the tunnels go to Egypt!
