Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is facing a tough primary challenge on Tuesday, making her the first of the eight Republicans who voted to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to fight for her reelection while the former GOP leader actively works against her.
Mace will compete against Catherine Templeton for the GOP nomination for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. The race has garnered widespread attention as Mace has faced opposition from some members of her own party, including McCarthy, who has set out on a revenge tour of sorts against the hard-line conservatives responsible for his ouster.
While McCarthy has not explicitly endorsed Mace’s challenger, he has gotten involved with raising money for Templeton’s campaign to boost her candidacy. Those efforts have prompted Mace to hit out against McCarthy, accusing the former speaker of tearing apart the Republican Party by getting involved with primary races.
“Kevin McCarthy has called donors of mine and asked them directly to donate to my opponent Catherine Templeton,” Mace said during a Post and Courier event last month. “That is what he’s doing. I’m not the only person that he’s targeting. There are eight of us, and it’s sickening to see how much money he’s spending behind all these lies.”
Mace is the first of the eight Republicans who booted McCarthy to face a primary this year. Five of the others — Reps. Bob Good (R-VA), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Eli Crane (R-AZ) — will face their own primaries later this year. The remaining two — Reps. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) and Ken Buck (R-CO), who are not running for reelection and have already stepped down from office.\

FUNM. She’s no prize.
I haven’t paid any attention to her. Glad she’s getting primaried, based on your opinion.
This is funny. The GOPe squishes like Scumbag McCarthy were all-in for Mace just 2 years ago, and frantically opposed her conservative primary opponent, Katie Arrington. Mace barely won without needing a runoff.
Arrington was also the GOP candidate in 2018 when she defeated corrupt incumbent stooge Mark Sanford. Sanford and the GOPe repeatedly backstabbed Arrington that year leading up to the general election, and as a result of that the Democrats (in a fluke) picked up the seat for 1 term before Mace won it in 2020.
Now here’s the funny part:
For nearly all of her career Mace has been a self-appointed posted child for GOPe “moderates” and she has often railed against the conservative wing of her own party.
But now SHE is suddenly the conservative — so far in 2024 she has been 100% reliably conservative on all key votes in the House. So NOW the establishment despises her, LOL.
Kevin McCarthy, Assistant Democrat.
She's now MAGA. Maybe it's politics. Or she's a recent convert to the movement.
Nancy Mace's key votes in 2024 -- 100% conservative, and nobody needs to bother trying to handwave that data by blurting out her so-called "Liberty Score", because that lazy, non-updated site has identified ONE key vote in Congress in the past 18 months. The linked data is the real thing.
Hard to say.
I’m not saying we should blindly trust someone who lurches to the right when they sense that’s how the wind is blowing, but she’s done a hell of a good job in 2024 and she’s not some shrinking violet either — she’s a fighter, and if she’s fighting the GOOD fight then I’m all for it.
She is typical politician catering to what she can see as her most beneficial career path.
The current winds are blowing PDJT success so that is where her wagon will hitch. Loud and proud support for MAGA is good way to get herself a place in the new administration.
Hope Mace wins. McCarthy is more motivated in helping out Democrats than to actually do something to benefit the GOP. He was a great Assistant Democrat.
Her *whole* Congressional staff quit because of her creating a toxic work environment. Word is that she would say a lot of inappropriate stuff to staffers.
Apparently, she is also a b!tch.
Make sure you know what MAGA means.
It is conservative — where conservative is defined as Drain the Swamp and Build the Wall. Anyone who has been in Washington over 6 years is Swamp.
Conservative means nothing other than that when there is $35T in debt.
I would agree- i am not a fan but if she’s being primaried because she voted to oust McCarthy, the challenger will be worse than her.
Not buying what she’s selling.
Stehanopolous treated her shamefully on This week. She seems to have woken up a little.
“Hope Mace wins.”
I do too.
It feels weird being a Mace supporter because I was solidly for Katie Arrington (twice). I have no idea if primary opponent Catherine Templeton is a true conservative (of course she claims to be — they ALL claim to be), but I’d just as soon stick with Mace at this point given her new-found righteousness and the fact that Kevin McCarthy hates her and supports her opponent.
F**k McCarthy and all those like him.
I am hoping for a Mace victory. Being on the same side as McCarthy the Uniparty tool should make you hesitate and think about your position.
I’ve been visiting South Carolina for a few weeks. The anti-Mace commercials and mailers have been unrelenting. One commercial chastises Mace for voting against a raise for Border Patrol agents. Of course, that was because she voted against an Omnibus bill.
For what it’s worth, some of the folks who live down here full time say that Mace’s turn rightward was concurrent with her ditching her staff, who reportedly were acolytes of McCarthy. They also say that Templeton is a disciple of Nikki Haley. Again, FWIW.
