Spirit Airlines flyer tracks down her stolen luggage to airport employee’s Florida house with her pinging Apple Watch

A Spirit Airlines passenger managed to track down her stolen luggage after it vanished when she arrived at a Florida airport — using one of the stolen items to aid in her desperate search.

Paola Garcia had been waiting for her small pink hardshell luggage, containing several Apple products like her personal MacBook and two Apple Watches, at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s carousel after returning home to the Sunshine State, Local 10 reported.

The exact timing of the incident remains unclear, but Garcia’s desperation to find her stolen property led her to the apparent culprit’s house even before local cops.

Garcia told the outlet she always carried on her luggage without issue, but this time, Spirit Airlines employees made her check the bag before she departed from New York.

She panicked as she watched others grab their bags from the carousel, and her luggage didn’t appear.

“In my mind, I’m thinking I need my computer because I go to the university, I need my computer no matter what,” Garcia told the outlet.

Garcia said she waited “at least two hours” before giving up hope that her luggage would arrive on the conveyor belt.

Spirit Airlines employees told Garcia not to worry and that her luggage would be sent to her house, she told the outlet.

The next day, she began receiving a ping from one of her Apple Watches — except it wasn’t coming from the airport but 15 minutes away at a Fort Lauderdale home.

It was the home of Junior Bazile, who worked in the retail store Paradies Shops at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Local 10.

Determined to get her belongings back, she went to the home, found her suitcase and her things, and immediately called 911.

“”it’s them again Yogi...””

I should have read the comments before the article...It’s getting pretty tiresome, isn’t it? Do “THEY” want to be part of a civilized society or don’t they??? If not, let’s ship them all out of the country - to wherever - I don’t care!

Thank you for posting this story. Reading other comments about Apple Air Tags for first time.

Ordered a 4 pack for my wife and daughter’s trip to Cambodia later this summer (they have iPhones).

I’ll make sure they put one in each checked in luggage.

“Commenting without reading the article, or even the excerpt, is a long tradition going back to the earliest days of FreeRepublic”

Definitely not to the earliest days. I began lurking in the 90s and signed up in 2000. Back then people’s comments were almost all either supportive or added value to the conversation. That was before much information was accessible online or we had Internet access at our fingertips. Someone who lived near an incident, knew a certain law or was involved in the same business, etc. would post information that increased knowledge of the situation.

It would be interesting to know when the ridiculous statements began that it is a tradition at FreeRepublic to comment without reading the article.

An investigation turned up images of Bazile rummaging through Garcia’s luggage in the back of the store where he was employed.

That begs the question, how did he get the bag? Are the luggage handlers selling their spoils inside the airport now?

Since the man is not a Spirit Airlines employee, it seems logical to assume that for him to have this stuff he’s connected to Spirit Airlines employees who are also involved.

As far as the cursory mention of TSA employees getting caught stealing from passengers, a thinking person would ask why are TSA employees not given proper background checks? Are there any standards for hiring TSA Personnel besides being ambulatory and potty trained?

Old Johnny Carson story. “I got off the plane and the airline told me they had lost all my luggage. I was left out of town without even a toothbrush.”
“I’m not giving up, though. Police have a report they’ve seen a baggage handler wearing my suits.”

Ah, come on. Farmerbob and I were just funnin’ around. Ever visit a “progressive” blog? I wouldn’t recommend it. The posters there are all deadly serious. Dry, depressing, and deadly serious.

We probably shouldn’t be like that.

Fort Lauderdale

I used to sell a lot of products on Ebay. At least 30% of any sales that went to the Miami area were fraudulent in some fashion or another. Most just waited until I posted a tracking number then filed a product not delivered claim. Of course these crooks didn't understand that I never sent anything via USPS to that area and UPS allows you to intercept and re-direct your package right back home. Which I was always prepared to do and did any number of times. I don't care that it cost me $14 bucks or whatever it was, you're not stealing my item numbnutz!

It sounds like we have same high opinion of thieves. I think we could include pedophiles in your sentencing recommendation with the parents or chosen representative.
Heck, bad judges, DA’s prosecutors, and politicians aren’t too far from being in that box either.
It may take that kind of tectonic shift to make things right in this country.

Anyone can get in the baggage claim and steal a bag…..especially if the passengers have not gotten to the baggage first..

Is there an android counterpart?

Take a look at these Android trackers based on Google's recently-implemented "Find My Device" network: Pebblebee.com

These work like the Apple AirTags, where any Android device can report the location of a tag in the area. I just bought a pack of these for my luggage, plus the card for my wallet. Anxiously awaiting their arrival so I can try them out!

Somebody probably just told him that Biden is running for re-election. That would startle anyone.

Well, if you fly with your firearm, THAT has to go in checked luggage, too. Sometimes there’s no way around it.

Exactly. My computer and iPad are always in my backpack. Nothing valuable goes into my carry-on just in case a gate check is required.

Hopefully she learned that lesson.

It was equally stupid to go to the guy’s house. Good way to get shot dead.

She may be at the university, but she needs some real-life learning to smarten her up.
