Bragg’s thrill kill in Manhattan could prove short-lived on appeal
The Hill ^ | June 6, 2024 | Jonathan Turley

The conviction of former President Donald Trump in Manhattan of 34 felonies produced citywide celebrations.

...

The celebrants would be wise to think twice before mounting this trophy kill on the political wall. The Trump trial is a target-rich environment for an appeal, with multiple layers of reversible error, in my view.

I am less convinced by suggestions that the case could be challenged on the inability of Trump receiving a fair trial in a district that voted roughly 90 percent against him. The problem was not the jury, but the prosecutors and the judge.

Some of the most compelling problems can be divided into four groups.

Do you really think for one minute that they’re going to stop the can from rolling down the hill? The fix is in has already been planned and strategized by the evil cabal. Don’t be surprised if the appeal is denied, and he ends up behind bars! Because in this world that we live in right now where everything has gone berserk, corrupt, and demonic insanity along with a giant case stupidity I’m bracing for the worst I have no hope whatsoever in our judicial system nor our representatives in the DC swamp. None ! I’ll tell you something though, Carville is just so elated because he thinks that now FJB has a tremendous chance of recapturing the White House. And why not, they’re brilliantly strategized their plan to bring down his opponents! While our representatives stayed silent hiding in their little caves cowering under their beds….spineless pieces of shit weasels! I’m still waiting for Biden to be impeached by the house. Crickets nothing but damn crickets!

I blame the jury. They all had to think Trump committed one of three other crimes to convict. And most of them were grinning like the idiots they are when the verdict was read.

The jury was handed selected malarial controlled by the judge. I don’t blame the jury.

I still do. And they voted overwhelmingly for Bragg and Joe Biden. They were as fair as this judge, and willingly so.

"I was floored by the celebrations outside by both the public and some of the media.

In watching Merchan in the courtroom, I was shocked by his rulings as at times incomprehensible and conflicted."

************

With all due respect to the good professor its surprising that he was floored and shocked by these events. This celebrated lawfare was just and extension of the kinds of abuses that Democrats have been doing for a long time. The types of abuses will keep getting worse until a way is found to punish and discourage them. Its good that Professor Turley is exposing the corruption, but a bit surprising that he didn't see it coming, especially in the cesspool of New York City.

Mandella spent some time as a felon too.

I like the idea of throwing this so-called lawfare right back at the Dems starting with Joe Biden. I would not be at all surprised if he had NDAs with parents whose kids he molested.

Problem is Dems stick together and don’t eat their own.

Repubs bail, say one thing do another, cowards in prosecuting Dems, stab each other in the back, throw others under the bus.

Have you seen the picture of the appeals court justices his case would go through?

Yes, they will ensure they take the house and senate if Trump wins. I’m just not seeing a good outcome in the many scenarios of what could happen.

Merchan could jail Trump after sentencing to await appeal.
NY appeals will slow walk the appeal
They could refuse to certify Trump if he wins

Spot on analysis.

Despite the grotesque and obvious lawfare and court bias that has occurred Turley still apparently believes that this case could be reversed in the state system. Its as if he’s in denial about New York. People and businesses who are leaving the state in droves harbor no such illusions.

On the other hand, Trump’s lawyers don’t seem so good either.

Top law firms will never work for a Trump. Their bread is buttered by the complexity of existing code and difficulty of achieving tort reform - conservatives represent an existential threat to their existence.

They also stab their voters in the back. Over and over again.

Your point is also true writ large. The DC Swamp thrives on complexity and fears anyone who wants to downsize or reform THEIR system. A massive hydra like government is their citadel.
