I thought I might find a use to thinly slice meat for sandwiches over in Papua. So, long, long ago I took a deli slicer over. But, not once, have we used it. I got it in my brain to bring the thing home.

But, it put my suitcase over the 23 kilo limit. Hubby thought, slip it into your carry-on! Well, we had a flash of intelligence and realized the cutting disc would have been discarded and we took it apart shipping the heavy motor in my carry-on and the sharp cutting disc in the checked luggage.

Very logical

So you carried a heavy Deli slicer motor on all these legs of your journey?!

I think you need to write a column about all of these interesting travel items. It might not seem unusual to you but I find it most entertaining.

The only thing even close for me was when my mother smuggled radicchio seeds in her pantyhose. That was back when you couldn’t find them here. She was caught trying to smuggle salami in her carry-on, so we just sat in the seats before terminal and ate it.
