Busted Gaza Pier Has All the Markings of a Joe Biden Op

A drone view of the scene where vessels used for delivering aid to Palestinians via a U.S.-built pier in Gaza got stuck after they ran aground on the Mediterranean coast in Ashdod, Israel, May 25, 2024. (Amir Cohen/Reuters)

On the menu today: The Gaza Pier — you know, the one where the U.S. and allied countries unloaded food, so it could be stolen off trucks before reaching its intended destination — is no longer operational, and it will be out of operation for “at least over a week.” It turns out that the pier system was not intended to be used in waters with waves higher than three feet, and three-foot waves occur in that part of the Mediterranean Sea frequently. We know that Pentagon officials can read a weather and surf report. Now the question is, did someone in the administration tell them to go ahead with the operation, knowing the risks?

Biden’s Gaza Pier Wasn’t Built to Withstand . . . Waves

A lot of us figured that Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad would have targeted the U.S.-built Gaza pier by now. But the wind and the sea got there first; what few of us realized was that the Pentagon built the pier in a location where it would regularly operate at the maximum safe-wave height and wind, and any bout of bad weather could break the structure apart.

...snip...

But it did not require a “perfect storm” to break apart the pier. CNN reported May 9: “It can only be safely operated in conditions with a maximum of 3-foot waves and winds less than approximately 15 miles per hour, according to a 2006 Naval War College paper on the systems limitations.”

Three-foot waves appear regularly on the Gaza coastline.

Will Barry give the pier to Iran? We could get arms to help free the people of Iran, but I forgot about Valerie Jarrett, she is on Iatola’s side.

I’ve read the storm that destroyed the American zone Mulberry was a 40 year storm. In any case, 3 foot waves and 15 mph winds maximum, that pier had no business being put up there. Fortunately it’s not really needed. Which doesn’t mean we won’t spend hundreds of millions more to “fix” it till the next 3 foot waves.

That’s a real thing, you know.

Statistically, just on random probability, he’d do better.

But he’s always wrong and always a disaster.

Surf’s up Bro!

Any idiot with passing knowledge of oceans and prevailing conditions could have told you this would happen. It looks like they attempted to construct a floating dock system, not a pier. A pier is built on pilings, installed in the seabed and is designed to let waves pass under it. Floating docks, not so much.

Your borrowed government money at work!

Sounds like that. I suspect this was designed for a river. Ocean, sea, large lakes, where is one that doesn’t get 3 foot waves and/or 15mph winds.

Some buddy made a wad cash off of this little raft, built with stuff you buy at the True Value hardware store.

This is why we have engineers. Which, apparently, were not hired for this job.

Weren’t they washed away as well? They served their purpose, but the ocean is big and temporary piers are very small.

I cannot say that I am disappointed - most of the goods were going to feed hama$$ koranimals. The failure of yet another FedGov project by the FJB regime cuts off that supply line.

The Gaza pier was a $300 million project that is now at $1.8 billion project. This is so typical of Jobama’s DC criminal cabal to create a huge pool of taxpayers money just to loot it. The annual interest, just the interest, on our $36 trillion debt now surpasses the entire US military budget. The DC criminals are laughing all the way to their off shore banks.

The “little service boats is a WWII style LCM (Landing Craft Mechanical (for tanks, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, tow trucks, graders and general vehicles and cargo).

Yes, it and the pier section were blown away from the longer, larger main pier and onto a nearby beach. Once drifted and swamped sideways like that, it is “very hard” to recover the craft undamaged and safe for future ops.

In WWII, a swamped LCM was basically abandoned, since there so many. Now, with a a few dozen in the entire Med, it has to be retrieved and repaired
At a few millions more wasted effort.
